Officer Receives Minor Injuries in Friday Night Chase

Police said the driver who was trying to escape police was under the influence.

A vehicle chase over the weekend, which began near the Richmond border, ended when a driver authorities said was intoxicated crashed into a police car in Albany.

At 8:48 p.m., on Friday June 24, an Albany police officer tried to stop a vehicle that was driving erratically on Cleveland Avenue. A short pursuit followed.

The chase ended when the driver crossed into the oncoming lane near Buchanan Street and crashed into an Albany police officer's car driving toward him, according to information released by Sgt. Chris Willis.

The officer received minor injuries in the crash. 

Police identified the driver as Rocio Hermosillo, 36, of Pinole. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence causing injury and evading police.

Police said they planned to take Hermosillo to Alameda County Jail after a psychiatric evaluation at John George Psychiatric Pavilion in San Leandro.
