Police Arrest 2 on Drug Charges After Serving Searching Warrant at Albany Blub

Katherine Cody and Alexander Wilson were both arrested during the warrant service on April 10.

Information provided by Albany Police—

On April 10, at approximately 7:00 a.m., members of the Albany Police Department served a narcotics search warrant at the campsite of Katherine Cody located in Waterfront Park in Albany, in an area referred to as the “Albany Bulb.”

Two persons were present at the camp when officers arrived: Katherine Cody and Alexander Wilson.  During the warrant service, police arrested Wilson for a violation of section 11377(a) Health and Safety Code (HS), possession of methamphetamine. Cody was also arrested and found to possess in excess of 12 grams of methamphetamine concealed in her clothing.

The search produced a digital scale, packaging materials, and paraphernalia for both smoking and injecting illegal drugs.

Cody was arrested for a violation of 11378 H&S, possession of methamphetamine for sale and 11364 H&S, possession of drug paraphernalia. A quantity of "tar" heroin was also discovered among Cody’s personal property and an additional charge of 11350 H&S, possession of heroin was added.

Both arrestees were transported to Alameda County Jail.  Several dogs at the camp were placed into the care/custody of Berkeley Animal Control officials. Not all of the dogs were owned by Cody, but two of the three owned by Cody have prior bite reports in Waterfront Park on file.

Investigation of controlled substance sales and use at the Albany Bulb has become a priority for the Albany Police Department due in part to the number of methamphetamine related arrests, incidents or other associated activity tied to persons camped on or frequenting the Bulb.

Using field work by patrol officers over the past several months, detectives were able to conduct an investigation into narcotic sales on the Bulb that led to Cody. Her arrest comes after multiple “controlled” purchases of methamphetamine from her, which allowed officers to present evidence to a Superior Court judge who in turn authorized a search warrant.

Cody’s arrest is a significant blow to the methamphetamine dealing and use that is regularly taking place on the Bulb.
