Police found numerous stolen ID and credit cards in the duo's vehicle, which authorities say a man and woman dumped near Pierce Street and Washington Avenue after fleeing from police near Target.

A suspicious transaction at led to a police chase early on Tuesday evening, which resulted in the arrest of two Oakland residents, authorities said.

Police Sgt. Tom Dolter said Target alerted the after store officials recognized a customer from a previous credit card fraud incident.

Officers lost sight of the vehicle, but found it shortly afterward in the 800 block of Washington Avenue, near Pierce Street, abandoned in a driveway carport.

Dolter said police soon caught up with the driver, identified as Darrian Williams, 19, of Oakland, who had fled on foot into the 800 block of Madison Street.

They found passenger Stoney Rodriguez, 25, of Oakland, in the 800 block of Adams Street.

Dolter said Target had recognized Rodriguez from an earlier credit card fraud incident at the store; Tuesday night, he tried to use another card at the store, but it was declined.

Dolter said Williams then used a different credit card to make a purchase at Target, and store officials later realized that the cardholder's name was not hers.

Dolter said police recovered numerous ID and credit cards in the abandoned Chevy.

He said the East Bay Regional Park District police also reported that at least one vehicle had been burglarized on Tuesday at Pt. Isabel, and that authorities had connected the crime to the Target incident.

Williams and Rodriguez were arrested on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy, forgery and credit card fraud, possession of stolen property and delaying, resisting or obstructing arrest.

Dolter said Williams also was arrested on suspicion of felony evading a police officer.

Rodriguez also was arrested for parole violation; he is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail and is scheduled for arraignment on Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse.
