Police Arrest Two Parolees with Stolen Mail, Forged Checks

Both men are being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail.

Police arrested two parolees early Saturday morning in a vehicle containing stolen mail and printed checks that appeared to be forged, authorities said.

On April 7, police stopped a car at about 3:30 a.m. after seeing its driver operating it at night without lights at San Pablo Avenue and Monroe Street, said Lt. Dan Adams, via email.

Police were able to search the vehicle because the 47-year-old driver, Carlos Harrison of Oakland, was on parole.

During the search they discovered stolen mail addressed to other people, as well as the printed checks, which appeared to be forged, said Adams.

Police asked the passenger for identification after they discovered the forged documents; police said he provided name and identification information for another person. He later was identified as William Edwards, 34, of Richmond.
