Police Ask Public For Help Finding Suspect in Package Thefts

The Albany Police Department has received several reports of packages being stolen from doorsteps recently.

Albany police officers have asked the community to keep an eye out for a woman they believe may be involved with thefts of packages from doorsteps. 

The has identified the woman as Reba Perkins, 41, and said she is known to spend time in Albany and El Cerrito, and travels by bike and on foot. 

Perkins is 5 feet 4 inches tall and 140 pounds.

Police are investigating "several reports" of thefts of delivered packages left unattended on doorsteps, and identified Perkins as a "person of interest" in the case. 

Authorities ask members of the public to call police immediately if they see Perkins. The Albany Police Department can be reached at 510-525-7300.

OTHER SAFETY REMINDERS

* Do not attempt to confront or detain package thieves.

* Be prepared to provide an accurate description, including clothing, physical description, vehicle description, direction of travel.

* Remove packages from door steps as quickly as possible.

* If residents know they will not be home, ask a neighbor or friend to secure the package. 

* Have packages delivered to the workplace rather than the home.
