Police Bulletin: "Defiant" Skateboarders, House Fire on Hillside, Drugs and Dice at MacGregor, Kensington Collar

MARCH 21, DAYSHIFT

10:39 a.m. A woman on Cornell Avenue needed the number for PG&E because her pilot light went out on her stove. She said she didn't need the Fire Department's help. The police dispatcher provided the PG&E phone number.

1:29 p.m. A woman in the Police Department lobby reported that her boyfriend hit her on the head on Buchanan Street. She said she did not need medical help. Log note only.

1:52 p.m. Police found a stolen vehicle on Pierce Street. It was parked near the wooded area, where it had been parked for several days. Case report taken.

2:24 p.m. Someone reported a small dog running around near the Buchanan interchange. Berkeley Animal Control took custody of the dog.

3:54 p.m. A woman reported that her purse was stolen from her car at the . Case report taken.

MARCH 21, NIGHTSHIFT

6:28 p.m. A student's bike was taken from during the day while he was at school. Case report taken.

6:56 p.m. Someone reported finding a large animal bone near a camp in a grassy area near Cleveland Avenue and Interstate 80. Unable to locate source of the complaint.

1:56 a.m. Police arrested Anthony Thomas Chavez of Oakland, near Buchanan and Fillmore Street, on suspicion of possessing stolen property and a probation violation. Chavez was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility in Oakland.

4:53 a.m. Someone reported seeing a white van occupied by three people wearing dark clothes who were checking door handles at the and stations. Log note only.

MARCH 22, DAYSHIFT

1:14 p.m. Someone reported an explosion and smoke coming from a neighbor's garage on Hillside Avenue. Albany Fire and Police departments responded to a structure fire, with help from the Berkeley Fire Department and the Albany Public Works Department.

2:19 p.m. A man reported three teens skateboarding in front of  using a "metal railing for tricks." They were asked to go elsewhere, but "they are defiant." The caller asked police to respond. Unable to locate source of complaint.

MARCH 22, NIGHTSHIFT

1:06 a.m. An officer spotted graffiti on the wall of . Case report taken.

1:46 a.m. Police arrested Andrew Mboya of Pittsburgh, CA, on suspicion of driving under the influence near the Buchanan interchange. Mboya was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility.

MARCH 23, DAYSHIFT

9:36 a.m. Someone came into the Police Department to report a dispute over a parking issue, and that the "other party was hitting ... (the) vehicle with her hands." Notification made.

3:07 p.m. Someone broke into a vehicle on Pierce and stole a purse. Case report taken.

4:33 p.m. A man in his 50s wearing a flannel shirt and jeans was reportedly yelling at other customers in the cafe. According to the caller, he had tried to hit someone there the prior week. Disputing parties separated, matter resolved.

5:13 p.m. Police arrested an Albany man after a caller reported what appeared to be a dice game and a drug deal at . The caller described a group of young men in their 20s behind the basketball hoops playing dice. According to the caller, "The subject that did the possible drug deal had a 'Wrigley's Spearamint' tin that he stuffed down the front of his pants." Police arrested Jelani Kardell Moore of Albany on suspicion of possessing marijuana for sale. Moore was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility.

MARCH 23, NIGHTSHIFT

7:32 p.m. Someone threw a brick through a window at . Log note only.

2:34 a.m. Police arrested Taunza Adeanne Grayson of Hayward on suspicion of driving under the influence on San Pablo Avenue. Grayson was cited and released.

MARCH 24, DAYSHIFT

11:29 a.m. to 2:06 p.m. There were multiple reports of flooding and sewer issues.

MARCH 24, NIGHTSHIFT

11:46 p.m. A security guard detained two men tagging in the restroom at Albany Bowl. Log note only.

MARCH 25, DAYSHIFT

12:43 p.m. A student was found at MacGregor High with a pocket knife and marijuana pipe. Case report taken.

2:24 p.m. A MacGregor student who "appears to be intoxicated" and is "acting belligerent" was found with an empty Gatorade bottle that "smells like alcohol," along with an "empty dime bag and 2 lighters." The student had no weapons and was waiting for his mother to pick him up. Case report taken.

MARCH 25, NIGHTSHIFT

10:08 p.m. Someone reported a fight involving two groups, of about 20 males and females, at the Albany Bowl. The caller said participants were "trying to take it to the parking lot" and that there was a "reference to a gun." Log note only.

1:26 a.m. Police arrested Nelson Alberto Dasilva of Hercules on suspicion of driving under the influence near the Buchanan interchange. He was also arrested on suspicion of committing battery on a peace officer. Dasilva was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility.

2:29 a.m. Police arrested Jeremy James Austin of Kensington at Brighton Avenue and Key Route Boulevard on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was also arrested on suspicion of driving on a suspended or revoked license in connection with a prior DUI.

MARCH 26, DAYSHIFT

10:10 a.m. A woman on Curtis found green spray paint on her home and on the window of her car. She told police she was aware of two recent arrests in connection with graffiti, and wanted police to know crimes were still occurring in the neighborhood. Log note only.

12:29 p.m. Police arrested a man at after he tried to leave without paying, according to police reports. A bystander detained the man until police arrived. Officers arrested Thomas Vorce of Napa on two outstanding warrants totalling $10,000. He was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility.

5:45 p.m. Someone who left a multi-colored polka dot umbrella in a bus shelter at Solano and Masonic avenues asked if police could pick up the umbrella and leave it at the police station for him. Unable to locate source of the complaint.

MARCH 26, NIGHTSHIFT

11:32 p.m. Police arrested Orlando Padilla of Pinole, near Central Avenue and Carlson Boulevard in El Cerrito, on suspicion of driving under the influence, and not having a valid license. He was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility.

MARCH 27, DAYSHIFT

10:20 a.m. A woman reported that a window to her home has been broken in a vandalism. Case report taken.

1:49 p.m. A vehicle on Pierce had its window smashed. A bag was taken. Case report taken.

4:29 p.m. A caller reported two men who "look like 'tweekers'" walking on Stannage Avenue selling magazine subscriptions. Miscellaneous violation, warning given.

MARCH 27, NIGHTSHIFT

2:36 a.m. Police arrested a Berkeley man on a bicycle at Solano and Masonic avenues. Temujin Harris was arrested on suspicion of possessing both stolen property and burglary tools. He is being held with a bail of $10,000 at Santa Rita Jail. He is scheduled for arraignment at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
