Police Calls: "Chasing Geese with a Sword," Out-of-Tune Karaoke, Barefoot Aggressor, Hatchet Man

DEC. 19

10:13 a.m. Someone reported a theft from a vehicle on Cornell Avenue.

11:27 a.m. Police received a report that an  student had been hit in the head by another student in the gym. The victim did not require medical assistance and the request for police was canceled.

2:08 p.m. A three-car collision with injuries was reported inside , but it was found to be a civil matter and the parties were advised of possible actions they could take.

5:49 p.m. Police responded to a car accident at Solano and San Pablo avenues. Police arrested Michelle Mendes of Alameda on suspicion of driving under the influence and a probation violation. She was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail in downtown Oakland.

7:18 p.m. Someone stole a sign from .

8:12 p.m. Storage lockers in the 1100 block of Portland Avenue were reported to have been burglarized over the weekend.

11:30 p.m. Police responded to a domestic dispute on Stannage Avenue. 

DEC. 20

12:37 a.m. A man called police to say "he just wants to go to sleep and (his) wife won't let him get in the bed."

8:20 a.m. A black man in his 50s, wearing blue jeans and a white beanie, stole NyQuil and a steak from a business on Solano Avenue. He left on a bicycle westbound on Solano.

8:36 a.m. Someone was arrested at Target on suspicion of fraudulent use of a credit card. (No additional information was available in the police bulletin.)

9:04 a.m. Overnight, someone burglarized a 1996 silver Honda Civic in the 1000 block of Peralta Avenue. 

1:40 p.m. Someone stole a purse from a vehicle in the 1100 block of Talbot Avenue, possibly during the prior weekend.

DEC. 21

5:33 a.m. Someone stole a laptop out of a vehicle parked in the paint shop parking lot in the 1100 block of Garfield Avenue.

9:11 a.m. Albany Police assisted Berkeley Police with an armed robbery reported on Milvia Street in Berkeley.

1:20 p.m. Someone stole a car stereo the prior night out of an unlocked vehicle parked at Dartmouth and Talbot avenues.

2:36 p.m. Someone, several days earlier, stole cologne, change, business cards and other items from an unlocked vehicle parked on Cornell. The caller said he or she had found a glove that likely belonged to the burglar.

6:28 p.m. Someone burglarized a home or vehicle in the 900 block of Ventura Avenue, possibly the prior night.

DEC. 22

12:32 p.m. Police arrested someone at San Pablo Avenue and Castro Street on suspicion of driving under the influence. (A name was not provided in the bulletin report.)

1 a.m. Someone reported "a lot of noise" and yelling coming from , but police determined that no action was warranted.

8:47 a.m. Someone reported an assault at the . No further information was available pending the police investigation.

10:50 a.m. Someone reported lines down and sparking on Neilson, and was referred to another agency for assistance.

11:17 a.m. Someone reported a theft from an unlocked vehicle in the 900 block of Stannage Avenue.

11:54 a.m. Police were called to the waterfront to speak to a man with a hatchet and a backpack who jumped over the fence toward the bird sanctuary. Police gave him a warning.

Noon. A woman called to say she thought city tree trimmers may have cracked or hit a family car, or the car of a friend, as they did their work.

3:41 p.m. A man on a bike who was taking items into an Albany Bulb campsite intervened when someone else's rottweiler "rushed at" another person at the waterfront.

6:34 p.m. Police arrested Angelo E. Barrera, 18, of Albany on suspicion of public intoxication when he was reported to be walking in the middle of the 500 block of Pierce Street, northbound in traffic. He was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail.

7:16 p.m. Someone found a new red-colored girl's bike with a lock, cable, helmet and basket on Cornell.

DEC. 23

2:12 a.m. Police arrested Dominic Michael Mejia, of El Cerrito, and Stephanie Michelle Flores, of Richmond, on suspicion of public intoxication after coming across them at Adams and Castro streets. Mejia was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail and Flores was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. They also arrested Christian Anthony Flores, of Richmond, on suspicion of driving under the influence at the same location; he was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail. 

12:19 p.m. Someone found a GPS unit in the 1500 block of Posen Avenue and turned it in to the Police Department.

1:06 p.m. Someone broke into a vehicle in the parking lot, via a window smash, and stole an emergency kit.

1:14 p.m. A commercial driver called police to report that another motorist was harrassing him by calling the number listed on his vehicle. 

1:22 p.m. Police received a report that a man in his 40s was "chasing geese with a sword" at the soccer field near Golden Gate Fields. 

5:23 p.m. Someone walked into an unlocked home in the 1500 block of Posen and stole a Sony Playstation 3 and a Dell laptop.

7:03 p.m. A woman on Ordway called to report a "loud party with some pleasant French music and some out of tune karaoke singers" that was preventing her from getting her baby to sleep. 

8:15 p.m. Someone stole a bike from the 500 block of San Pablo Avenue.

9:15 p.m. A young teenager stole a silver scooter from a back porch on Evelyn, then made off east on Solano with another young teen on a skateboard.

10:15 p.m. A girl at a "loud teenage party" on Posen was reportedly hit in the face by another partygoer.

DEC. 24

12:16 a.m. Police responded to a physical fight on San Pablo, where the "main aggressor" was described as a barefoot woman in a short white skirt and gray sweater who was "hitting people" while "some other people (were) trying to drag her out" of a bar. Police arrested Angelina Rene Luna of San Pablo on suspicion of public intoxication; she was cited and released with a notice to appear in court. 

1:07 a.m. Police separated disputing parties at the . 

2:28 a.m. Police arrested Rie Inaba of El Cerrito on suspicion of driving under the influence near Taco Bell. She was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail in downtown Oakland.

12:15 p.m. A woman visiting from Roseville, CA—north of Sacramento—went into the Albany Police Department to see if someone could "go shut her garage door," which she believed she'd left open. Authorities gave her the phone number for the Roseville Police Department. 

DEC. 25

8:01 a.m. Someone appeared to have rifled through a locked vehicle and storage trunk at the USDA.

8:31 a.m. A sweatsuit-wearing man in his 40s, with dark hair and a mustache, stole a Playboy magazine from .

11:51 a.m. Someone reported a "large amount of water" coming up from the asphalt near 1201 Solano Ave.; the caller was referred to the Public Works Department.
