Police Calls: 2 Target Arrests, Fire Warning at Bulb, Kerfluffle Over Loud Music

The Albany police logs for Sept. 16-17 include two arrests linked to alleged stealing at Target, a warning about having a fire at the Albany Bulb, a stolen bicycle, more reports of people taking recyclables and a dispute over loud music on Portland.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Monday, Sept. 16

Identity theft – At 2:07 p.m., police logged a report of identity theft filed by a person in the police lobby. Disposition: Case report taken.


911 call about barking dog
– At 2:27 p.m., police received a 911 call about a dog barking a lot on Stannage. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Person taking recyclables – At 6:39 p.m., police received a report that a person wearing UC Berkeley cap and pushing a shopping cart on San Carlos was take recyclables. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Tablet, food stolen – victim locates suspect – At 7:14 p.m., police received a report from a resident on Brighton that her tablet containing personal information and food was missing from her apartment and that she saw a female who lives in a building across from her with the tablet on the balcony an hour ago. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Tuesday, Sept. 17

Drug arrest at Golden Gate Fields – At 2:43 a.m., police arrested a 43-year-old Hayward resident at 1100 Eastshore Blvd. on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine or other controlled substance. The arrest followed at 2:21 a.m. "Arrest Made" log entry of officer-initiated activity at the lower lot of Golden Gate fields involving paper plates on a vehicle with two people inside. 

Hit and run with damage with Club Mallard – At 2:34 a.m., an employee at Club Mallard reported a cold hit and run with damage to a vehicle parked in the parking lot. Disposition: Case report taken.

Warning to person taking recycling – At 8:31 a.m., police received a report of a man in a blue cap going through recycling on Pomona. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.

Non-injury accident – At 9:58 a.m., police received a report of non-injury accident involving a Toyota and a Hyundai blocking the roadway at San Pablo and Marin. Disposition: Log note only.

Arrest with prior convictions at Target – At 11:17 a.m., police arrested a 34-year-old Richmond man at Target and booked him on Section 666 of the state Penal Code, which concerns crimes committed with prior convictions. The arrest followed a 10:37 a.m. report from Target of a male at the store who has stolen in the past. The reporting party asked that police present when the subject is advised that he is no longer welcome.

Identity theft – At 12:04 p.m., police logged a report of identity theft filed by a person in the police lobby. Disposition: Case report taken.

Warning for having a fire at Albany Bulb – At 12:39 p.m., police logged a report officer-initiated activity and a warning for having a fire at the Albany Bulb. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.

Bike stolen – At 4:15 p.m., police received a report of a specialized silver/blue 10-speed bike just taken on Talbot. Disposition: Case report taken.

Petty theft arrest at Target – At 4:15 p.m., police logged an "Arrest Made" report of a "subject inside store consuming" at Target. The arrest log shows an 18-year-old El Cerrito male arrested on suspicion of petty theft.

Vehicle vandalism – At 5:50 p.m., police received a report of slurs spray-painted on a vehicle and the door locks jammed with food at the dead end of Taft. Disposition: Log note only.

Citation in non-injury accident – At 7:41 p.m., police received a report of non-injury accident involving a parked vehicle hit from behind. The responsible vehicle was still at the scene. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – citation issued.

Loud music warning on Portland – At 10:55 p.m., police received a complaint of loud music playing since playing since this afternoon on Portland. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.

Neighbor throwing things at reporting party's house on Portland – At 11:20 p.m., police received a report that now the neighbor is throwing things at the reporting party's house on Portland. Disposition: Report is unfounded
