Police Calls: 3 Pot Incidents, Forgery Arrest, More Dog Bites, Trash Receptacle Issues

The Albany police log for June 3-4 includes a marijuana brownie that made an Albany High student ill, an Albany Middle School student with pot, an arrest for forgery at Target, stolen trash cans, burglaries, ID thefts and a woman with purloined mail.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

Monday, June 3

Female auto burglar flees – At 12:09 a.m., police received a report of woman in her 30s 10 minutes earlier rummaging through the reporting party's unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway on Ordway. The reporting party yelled at the woman, who ran away toward Marin. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

ID theft – At 9:18 a.m., police received a report that the reporting party's ID was used to make purchases at the Albany Target. Disposition: Case report taken.

Residential burglary – At 9:50 a.m., police received a report of a burglary over the weekend from a person who just returned home. She thinks it may have been her ex-husband looking for documents. Disposition: Log note only.

Auto burglary – At 11:32 a.m., police received a report of a vehicle being rummaged through overnight on Neilson. Disposition: Request for police canceled.

Pit bulls bite dog at Waterfront Park – At 11:50 a.m., police received a report from a person whose dog was bitten on the face and paw by two pitbulls (including one that was a gray mix) that arrived in a white pickup. The reporting party doesn't want anything from the other dog owner, just concerned that the dogs could hurt a child. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Suspicious person in white coat – At 1:08 p.m., a person on Talbot reported that another person, wearing a white coat and yellow security tape, came onto the property Friday and 10 minutes ago today stating he was working for a company contracted with PG&E out of Georgia. Disposition: Log note only.

Forgery, burglary intent arrest – At 1:26 p.m., police logged a report of a woman passing a fraudulent check at Target and leaving in a brown Chevy van with a broken window. Police arrested the suspect, an Oakland woman, in the 800 block of Buchanan on suspicion of forgery and intent to commit burglary.

Vehicle accident – At 2:47 p.m., police logged a report of a vehicle accident at Brighton and Kains with injuries and other details not known. Disposition: Vehicle towed.

Non-injury accident – At 3:46 p.m., police received a report of non-injury vehicle accident at Marin and Key Route. Disposition: Log note only.

Waste Management truck vs. City vehicle accident – At 4:09 p.m., police received a report from a Waste Management dispatcher that a Waste Management truck was hit by City vehicle on San Pablo between Solano and Dartmouth. The dispatcher said the truck driver followed the City vehicle and spoke to the City vehicle driver at Gilman and Interstate 80, telling the City vehicle driver that the truck driver was going to file a report with his company. The City vehicle then departed toward the dump. The Waste Management dispatcher was told to have her driver come back to the Albany Police Department and file a report. Disposition: Log note only.

Illegal dumping in Royal Cafe dumpster – At 4:29 p.m., police received a report of an on-going problem with a subject illegally dumping into the cafe's dumpster. The reporting party has the address and video of the person responsible. Disposition: No police action warranted at this time.

Problems with person in camper on property – At 5:54 p.m., police received a call from the attorney of the new owner of a property on Masonic saying that a person living in a camping trailer in the driveway is going to the bathroom in the creek even though he access to bathrooms, has rats for pets, is forging the signature of the deceased former owner of the property to collect SSI, and has scared the attorney and her property manager. The former owner died and left the property to someone who lives in Santa Barbara. Disposition: No police action warranted at this time.

Dog bites person – At 6:51 p.m., police received a report from a person who was bitten by a dog at the Teen Center at Carmel and Thousand Oaks. The dog and owner are still at the scene. The reporting party declined medical attention and will be waiting in his vehicle. Disposition: Case report taken.

Tuesday, June 4

Dui arrest
– At 2:34 a.m., police arrested a female Oakland bartender at Buchanan and Fillmore on suspicion of driving under the influence and having a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more.

Liquor theft at Safeway – At 4:55 a.m, police received a report of man in a white hoodie taking a couple of bottles of liquor at Safeway and departing on foot toward Neilson. The reporting party just wants a warning issued about entering the store. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

AMS student with pot – At 8:31 a.m., police received a report of a child with marijuana at Albany Middle School. The student was in the school's main office. Disposition: Case report taken.  

License plate theft – At 9:39 a.m., police received a report of a license plate stolen from a vehicle on Pierce and replaced with another. Disposition: Case report taken. 

Threatening contractor – At 9:41 a.m., a person in the police lobby reported receiving a threatening phone call from a contractor she's been working with. Disposition: Civil matter – parties advised. 

Repeated theft of trash cans – At 10:28 a.m., police received a report of trash cans being stolen four times over the past 4-6 months on Curtis. The reporting party doesn't want a police report, just a record that the thefts were reported to police. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Petty theft – At 10:37 a.m., police logged a case of petty theft based on a report from officer-initiated activity on Pierce. Disposition: Case report taken.  

Apparent cat mutilation – At 10:41 a.m., police received a report from a resident on Evelyn saying it appeared that a cat had been butchered on his property. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

ID theft – At 12:23 p.m., police received a report of identity theft on Curtis from a person in the police lobby. Disposition: Case report taken.

Marijuana brownie case at AHS – At 12:35 p.m., police received a report of a student in the office at Albany High School in possession of a marijuana brownie. He gave it to a female student who was having a bad reaction. The school staff was taking care of her and they declined medical attention. The high school was contacting her parents. Disposition: Case report taken. [Editor's note: Albany Patch published an article on this incident on June 6, 2013.]

Tree vandalism – A person who helped plant trees with the City Arborist during a recent tree drive reported to police at 3:11 p.m. that two trees on Kains have been cut halfway up the trunk in apparent vandalism. Disposition: Case report taken.

Mail theft – At 4:07 p.m., a person reported to police that the person's son was home on Evelyn about 3 p.m. and saw a female about 25 years old with her hand in the mailbox and hands full of mail. The son went out to talk to her, and she left in a brown sedan. Disposition: Case report taken.

Pothole sends bicyclist to emergency room – At 5:14 p.m., police received a report of the reporting party's friend going to the ER after riding over a large pothole at the southeast corner of San Pablo and Solano on his bicycle. A claim was already filed on the City website. Disposition: Log note only.

Hit and run – At 6:49 p.m., police received a report of a hit and run accident that occurred sometime today to a parked vehicle on Pierce. Disposition: Case report taken.

Loud male juveniles smoking pot in car – At 10:44 p.m., police received a report of 5-6 maie juveniles in a black sedan facing south on Stannage just past Garfield smoking marijuana and being loud. Disposition: Matter or reported situation checks out O.K.
