Police Calls: 4 Arrested in 2 Days, 2 Phones Stolen, Bonfire, 911 Miscue

The Albany police log for May 23-24 includes two women arrested on various crimes, including car theft, after a reported bad check at Target, a bonfire at the Bulb and another complaint about an aggressive transient at Curtis and Solano.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

Thursday, May 23

DUI arrest
 At 2:24 a.m., police arrested a male from Roseville at San Pablo and on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Brick damages vehicle 
– At 7:30 a.m., police received a report of vehicle that was parked in secure garage at an apartment complex on Evelyn being damaged by a thrown brick. Disposition: Case report taken.

Auto burglary – At 8:17 a.m., Berkeley police called to report that an employee at Golden Gate Fields reported an auto burglary on the west side of the racetrack. The victim would like to be contacted. There was no further description. Disposition: Log note only.

Auto burglary – At 9:05 a.m., a person reported that someone entered his unlocked VW Jetta and VW Passat parked in a driveway on Ordway and took $3 in cash. The person contacted police to have a police record of the theft. Disposition: Log note only.

Auto theft – At 9:13 a.m., police received a report of a vehicle theft on Spokane. Disposition: Case report taken.

Non-injury accident – At 10:54 a.m., police received a report of a non-injury  accident involving a maroon Thunderbird south on Solano on Jackson. Disposition: Case report taken.

Auto burglary – At 12:57 p.m., police received a report of loose change taken from a vehicle on Beverly Place. Disposition: Log note only.

Illegal fruit-selling – At 1:33 p.m., police logged a report of a man selling fruit at Solano and Jackson. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.

Theft, property destruction arrest – At 2:12 p.m., police received a report of a man yelling and screaming from the back of Beverages & More on Solano, becoming aggressive when approached. At 2:26 p.m., the man, a Berkeley resident, was placed under arrest on suspicion of petty theft and destruction of property. 

Aggressive transient – At 3:51 p.m., police received a report from a person who wanted to trim bushes and a tree in the area of Curtis and Solano and said that a male transient in the area was aggressive the last time he was approached. Disposition: Log note only.

Lost wallet at Albany High – At 4:58 p.m., police received a report of dark brown wallet lost at Albany High School. Disposition: Log note only.

Bad check at Target, two arrested – At 8:20 p.m., police received a report of woman passing a bad check for $450 at Target. She left with another woman in a vehicle. At 8:39 p.m., police arrested two women, one from Richmond and one from San Pablo, at Solano and Jackson. The Richmond resident was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, and the one from San Pablo arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary and passing a bad check.

Graffiti, railroad trespass arrest – At 10:01 p.m., a female driver reported seeing three heads on the railroad tracks at Cleveland and Washington. At 10:18 p.m., a male from Sacramento was arrested on suspicion of graffiti and unlawful presence on railroad tracks.

911 call problem – At 11:55 p.m., a female caller on the non-emergency line said there was a person lying on the sidewalk at Washington and Cleveland and that she had called 911 10 minutes earlier from her cell phone. She was connected to the California Highway Patrol and was transferred to an ambulance service that said it would send help. The Albany police and fire departments were not advised of the incident until they were contacted by the female caller. Disposition: Assistance given to outside agency.

Friday, May 24

Bonfire at cove – At 3:21 a.m., police logged a report of contact with a group at the cove at Albany Bulb with a bonfire. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.

Truck dumping fluid on street – At 8:39 a.m., police received a report of a small dump truck with the name of a San Leandro company on it dumping hydraulic fluid or anti-freeze into the street. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Lost book – At 1:43 p.m., police received a report of an older white book with blue writing lost on Stannage on May 20. Disposition: Log note only.

Stolen phone – At 3:43 p.m., police received a report of a stolen phone in front of Rivoli on Solano. Disposition: Case report taken.

Cell phone stolen at Albany High – At 4:27 p.m., police received a report of a Samsung S4 taken out of a backpack at Albany High School. Disposition: Case report taken.

Items stolen at Golden Gate Fields – At 4:39 p.m., a person in the lobby reported that a camera and case, a battery charger and TV connecting wire were taken at Golden Gate Fields on Mother's Day. Disposition: Case report taken.

Fence damaged in hit and run – At 5:35 p.m., police received a report of fence on Tevlin being hit and damaged in a hit and run by a vehicle last seen going right on Francis. Disposition: Case report taken.

Auto burglary – At 6:54 p.m., police received a report of an auto burglary at Sizzler on San Pablo. A vehicle in the parking lot had its right rear window smashed, and a briefcase was taken. Disposition: Case report taken.
