Police Calls: $5,770 Necklace Stolen, Person Bitten by Pit Bull Mix at Bulb

The Albany police logs for Aug. 22-23 include the theft of necklace valued at $5,770, a person bitten on the leg by a pit bull mix in the Albany Bulb area, a stolen vehicle, two reports of people taking recycling and a shoplifting arrest at Safeway.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Thursday, Aug. 22

Man with stroller taking recycling – At 7:20 a.m., police received a report of a man with a stroller taking recycling on Madison heading toward Solano. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.


Propane containers dumped
– At 9:09 a.m., police received a report of several propane containers dumped overnight in the shipping bay of Adhesive Products on Cleveland. Disposition: Case report taken.

Person bitten or scratched by dog – At 1:17 p.m., police received a report of a person bitten or scratched by a small brown dog on Solano. Disposition: Case report taken.

Necklace worth $5,770 stolen – At 3:13 p.m., police received a report of necklace valued at $5,770 taken on Key Route. Disposition: Case report taken.

Dog in bad shape at Albany Bulb – At 4:05 p.m., police logged a report that Berkeley Animal Control has received reports of a Pekinese dog in bad medical shape living at the Albany Bulb. Disposition: Log note only.

Man with a cart taking recycling – At 6:47 p.m., police received a report of man in a white jacket with a cart collecting recycling on Kains heading north toward Garfield. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Altercation at Target – At 9:25 p.m., police logged a report that two people opened car doors into each other, causing no damage at Target. The reporting party took photos and the other party, a woman in her 40s became disturbed, followed the reporting party into the store and grabbed the reporting party by the shoulder. The disturbed party was with her teenaged daughter. The reporting party asks for advice. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Friday, Aug. 23

DUI arrest – At 12:18 a.m., police arrested a 44-year-old Richmond woman at Buchanan and I-80 on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Safeway shoplifting arrest – At 3:34 a.m., police arrested a 25-year-old unemployed San Pablo woman at Safeway on suspicion of commercial burglary and being in possession of burglary tools. The arrest followed a report at 3:18 a.m. of a woman in a black hoodie and a tattoo on her ankle being in the store who has entered twice with an empty bag and left with the bag full.

Gateway stairwell fouled on several occasions – At 9:53 a.m., police received a report from a security employee at Gateway Towers on Pierce that someone has defecated on several occasions in the stairwell of DEF building. No suspect has been identified and there is no video surveillance of the stairwell. Gateway will contact Albany police if a suspect or suspects are identified. Disposition: Log note only.

$3 stolen from unlocked vehicle – At 10:25 a.m., police received a report that someone took $3 in change overnight from an unlocked vehicle in a resident's driveway on Sante Fe. Disposition: Log note only.

Non-injury accident – At 10:38 a.m., police received a report of non-injury accident involving an auto and Bobcat construction equipment in the parking lot of the Friendship Club at 900 Buchanan. Disposition: Case report taken.

Person bitten by pit bull mix at Albany Bulb – At 2:22 p.m., police received a report that a person sustained an injury on Tuesday when bitten by a pit bull mix on the right calf at the Albany Bulb area. Disposition: Case report taken.

Identity theft – At 3:53 p.m., a person in the police lobby reported a case of identity theft. Disposition: Case report taken.

Camper near Codornices Creek – At 5:22 p.m., police received a report of man about 50 years old camping near Codornices Creek south of Target with a dog, bike, and large amount of property. The reporting party is concerned about the environmental hazard. Disposition: Responsible/s advised of complaint, will correct situation.

Outstanding warrant arrest – At 5:29 p.m., police arrested a 25-year-old Oakland woman who came to the police station to surrender on a no-bail warrant out of Union City for alleged forgery.

Vehicle stolen – At 6:43 p.m., police received a report of a vehicle stolen within the past two hours on Solano. The reporting party is currently waiting for an officer at Blesk Hair Salon. Disposition: Log note only.

Suspicious AT&T workers – At 8:26 p.m., police received a report of two AT&T workers on Peralta who had been in the area in the afternoon and who are back there now. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Identity theft – At 8:39 p.m., police logged a case of identity theft. Disposition: Case report taken.

DUI arrest – At 10:47 p.m., police arrested a 40-year-old Martinez man at Washington and Adams on suspicion of driving under the influence.
