Police Calls: 6 Arrested in 1 Day, Scam Call for Money to Free Jailed Relative

The Albany police logs for Nov. 18-19 include six people arrested on various charges, a stoned student at Albany High, a female senior citizen told to send money to get a purported relative out of jail and wallets stolen at Target and BevMo.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Monday, Nov. 18

DUI arrest – At 12:41 a.m., police arrested a 33-year-old San Pablo man at San Pablo and Buchanan on suspicion of driving under the influence and having a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more.

DUI, driving without a license arrest – At 2:05 a.m., police arrested a 43-year-old Albany man at Polk and Washington on suspicion of driving under the influence and driving without a license. 

2 arrested on drunk/disorderly, 1 on resisting – At 2:33 a.m., police arrested two men – a 26-year-old El Cerrito resident and 24-year-old Albany resident – in the 700 block of Jackson on suspicion of being under the influence to an unsafe degree or obstructing a public right of way. The El Cerrito man was arrested also on suspicion of resisting an officer. The arrests followed a 2:24 a.m. report of several males making lots of noise on Jackson.

Wallet, cell phone stolen at BevMo – At 10:52 a.m., a person in the police lobby reported the theft over the weekend of a wallet, California driver's license and cell phone and Beverages and More on San Pablo. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Drug arrest – At 2:24 p.m., police arrested a 54-year-old Richmond man in the 400 block of San Pablo Ave. on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine or other controlled substance and possessing drug paraphernalia.

Auto burglary at Target – At 4:15 p.m., police received a report of black VW Jetta broken into at Target 10 minutes earlier. Disposition: Case report taken.

Scam call seeking money to get out of jail – At 6:33 p.m., a female senior citizen reported receiving a phone call last week from a person claiming to be her relative and telling the woman to send money to get the relative out of jail. The woman received another call this evening that said, "You left me in the slammer," and then hung up. The woman would like a call back. Disposition: Log note only.

Driving without proper license arrest – At 10:55 p.m., police arrested a 38-year-old Richmond man at Marin and Evelyn on suspicion of driving on a suspended or invalid license.

Tuesday, Nov. 19

Non-injury accident – At 7:58 a.m., police received a report of a non-injury accident involving two vehicles at Curtis and Marin. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Student high on marijuana at Albany High – At 8:24 a.m., police a received a report from Albany High School of a student high on marijuana. The school wants to file a report. Disposition: Case report taken.

Wallet stolen from purse at Target – At 11:04 a.m., a person reported a wallet stolen out of a purse while shopping at Target on Nov. 13. The reporting party has no means of transportation and would like to file a report by phone. Disposition: Request for police canceled.

Patient pushed out of bathroom by possible drug user – At 3:12 p.m., police received a report of woman in a black puffy jacket in a bathroom on San Pablo possibly using drugs. The woman pushed a patient out when trying to use the bathroom. Disposition: Matter or reported situation checks out O.K.

Outstanding warrant arrest – At 7:46 p.m., police arrested a 37-year-transient male at Waterfront Park on an outstanding warrant.
