Police Calls: Several Accidents, Bike Thief Knocked Off Bike

The Albany police log for April 29-30 includes six accidents, including two hit and runs, shoplifting at Target and Cosmoprof, and an attempted bike theft on Sante Fe where the victim knocked the suspect off the bike.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

 Monday, April 29

Non-injury accident – At 9:29 a.m., police logged a non-injury vehicle accident in the hundred block of Pomona. Disposition: Case report taken.

Non-injury accident – At 11:19 a.m., police logged a non-injury "vehicle vs. bicycle vs. vehicle" accident at Citibank on Solano. Disposition: Case report taken.

Auto burglaries – At 12:38 p.m., police received a call from a person reporting that her parents' vehicle on Pierce had been broken into twice recently. Disposition: Case report taken.

CDs stolen at Target – At 1:32 p.m., police received a report of man stealing CDs about five minutes earlier from Target. He was described as black, thin, about 6-feet 1-inch tall, wearing a black jacket and jeans, last seen going north on Eastshore. Disposition: Case report taken.

Marijuana at High School – At 2:18 p.m., police received a report that a 16-year-old student was found in possession of marijuana at Albany High. Disposition: Case report taken.

Tuesday, April 30

No plates, steamy windows – At 1:48 a.m., police logged a report from an officer discovering a vehicle parked just off the dirt lot at Golden Gate Fields with no plates and "windows steamed up." Disposition: Log note only.

Non-injury accident – At 8:46 a.m., police logged a report of a non-injury vehicle accident at Marin and Ramona. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Burglary – At 8:57 a.m., police logged a report of a burglary on Pierce. Disposition: Case report taken.

Hit and run – At 12:55 p.m., police received a report of a hit and run on San Pablo. Disposition: Case report taken.

Thwarted bike theft – At 1:09 p.m., police received a report of an attempted theft of a bike five minutes earlier on Sante Fe. The victim knocked the would-be thief off the bike, and the suspect fled. El Cerrito police were flagged down and were searching the area. The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic man in his late 20s or early 30s with slicked-back black hair, wearing a black t-shirt and jeans, last seen going west on Curry from Colusa. Disposition: Assistance given to outside agency.

Non-injury accident – At 3:12 p.m., police received a report of a two-vehicle, non-injury accident at Solano and Neilson. Disposition: Case report taken.

Hit and run – At 4:16 p.m., police received a report of a hit and run accident about five minutes earlier at Marin and Ramona. A green Odyssey was damaged by a fleeing white Hyundai, whose driver was described as Asian male wearing a traffic vest and last seen going south on Pomona. Disposition: Case report taken.

Attempted petty theft – At 4:45 p.m., police received a report of a woman attempting to steal $100 worth of nail polish at Cosmoprof on San Pablo. The woman was stopped and gave the nail polish back. No prosecution is desired. Disposition: Log note only.

Battery – At 6:01 p.m., police were contacted via 911 by a male and a female at Goli Hair Design on San Pablo each stating the other party pushed them. Dispostion: Disputing parties separated – matter resolved.

Loud party at pool – At 11:49 p.m., police received a report of what sounded like a loud party at the pool on Portland. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.
