Police Calls: Aggressive Panhandler, Package Swiped from Porch, Beer Thief

The Albany police logs for July 31 - Aug. 1 include a stolen rental car, a man who refused to leave the Am/Pm, assault over a Lexus, a home burglary, at least three vehicles hit by an older driver and a man arrested for trying to abscond with beer.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Wednesday, July 31

Stolen rental car – At 6:14 a.m., police received a report of a rental car taken overnight on Jackson. Disposition: Case report taken.

Freeway speeder – At 1:05 p.m., police received a report of car going 90-100 mph on the freeway and cutting across four lanes of traffic onto the shoulder on the off-ramp. The driver, now inside Albany tire service, was described as a white female with blond hair in her 40s wearing beige clothing and white shoes and carrying a black bag. Disposition: Matter or reported situation checks out O.K.

Assault over Lexus – At 2:27 p.m., police received a report of a man who stomped on the reporting party while she was on the ground, ran her head into a door and tried to hang her dog by the neck. The reporting party is declining medical treatment and will wait at the security office. The dispute was over title to a Lexus. Disposition: Disputing parties separated – matter resolved.

Residential burglary – At 9:53 p.m., police logged a burglary report that the reporting party had left the house at 6:30 p.m. and found the front door was unlocked and the back door open. Disposition: Case report taken.

Man Won't Leave Am/Pm – At 10:18 p.m., police received a complaint that a man refuses to leave the Arco Am/Pm on San Pablo. Disposition: Log note only.

Thursday, Aug. 1

Aggressive panhandler cited – At 10:47 a.m., police logged a complaint about aggressive panhandling by a transient man who appeared to be under the influence to an unsafe degree near the theater on Solano. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – citation issued.

Lost jacket
– At 10:52 a.m., a caller reported that she lost her jacket containing miscellaneous items of ID somewhere on Solano between Ramona and Neilson yesterday. She wanted to report the loss in case anyone turns the items in. Disposition: Log note only.

Package taken from porch
– At 11:50 a.m., a person in the police lobby reported a package taken from a porch. Disposition: Case report taken. 

Drug, probation arrest 
– At 4:20 p.m., police arrested a San Leandro woman at 928 San Pablo Ave. on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance and violating probation.

Big truck blocks road – At 12:45 p.m., police received a report of a giant 80-foot moving truck blocking the roadway on Ramona north of Solano. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – citation issued.

Non-injury accident – At 6:08 p.m., police received a report of non-injury accident involving at least three vehicles hit by an older driver at Carmel and Solano. Disposition: Case report taken.

Woman locked inside building – At 7:12 p.m., police received a report of a woman locked inside Alta Bates Medical on San Pablo. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Petty theft, probation arrest – At 9:16 p.m., police arrested a man, identified as a transient, at San Pablo and Washington after he walked out with a 6-pack under his arm and went into the Club Mallard. He was arrested on suspicion of petty theft and violating probation. The loss was recovered by the reporting party.
