Police Calls: Albany Student Arrested in Alleged Auto Theft

The Albany police log for June 10-11 includes the arrest of an Albany student on suspicion of vehicle theft, a cell phone stolen at Albany High, a son breaking things at home after the Internet was unplugged, and a teen boy carrying an axe on Marin.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

Monday, June 10

ID theft – At 9:52 a.m., a person in the police lobby reported a case of identity theft. Disposition: Case report taken.

Hit and run – At 12:05 p.m., police received a report of a hit-and-run accident 10 minutes earlier. The reporting party said her red Subaru was hit by another driver at Eastshore and Buchanan and provided her information and that the other driver departed southbound. Disposition: Case report taken.

Auto burglary – At 1:26 p.m., police received a report of a black work-out bag and martial arts equipment (no weapons) stolen from an unlocked vehicle sometime during the previous night on Cornell. Disposition: Log note only.

ID theft – At 2:47 p.m., a person in the police lobby reported a case of identity theft. Disposition: Case report taken.

Vehicle stuck in fence – At 3:19 p.m., police received a report of vehicle running into a fence and getting stuck in the fence at the north lot of Golden Gate Fields. Disposition: Log note only. 

Robbery at Max's Liquors – At 3:46 p.m., police received a report of robbery with a gun at Max's Liquors on San Pablo. The reporting party was hit in the head. The suspects were described as Asian men in their 20s, one with a gray hoodie with the hood pulled up and black jeans and one with a black hoodie with the hood pulled up. They left heading north on San Pablo. Disposition: Case report taken. [Editor's note: Patch published two articles about this robbery, the first one reporting that it occurred followed by one giving descriptions of the suspects.]

Aggressive pit bulls – At 6:28 p.m., police received a complaint about a female walking on Kains with two "very aggressive" pit bulls, with the larger gray one going after the reporting party and causing him to jump into the street. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Internet-deprived son breaks things – At 7:19 p.m., police received a report from a resident on Neilson that his son was breaking things in the house because the father had unplugged the Internet. Disposition: Matter or reported situation checks out O.K.

Tuesday, June 11

Cell phone stolen at Albany High – At 11:27 a.m., police received a report from a father that his son's cell phone had been taken out of classroom at Albany High School. Disposition: Case report taken.

Hit and run – At 12:42 p.m., a person reported just discovering a parked vehicle being hit and damaged on San Carlos. Disposition: Assistance given to outside agency.

Student arrested in vehicle theft case
 – The Albany police arrest log says that at 2:21 p.m., an Albany student was arrested in the 600 block of San Carlos on suspicion of vehicle theft. The police call log says Albany police had been requested by El Cerrito police to provide back-up at that address regarding a vehicle theft and that an arrest took place. [Editor's note: Patch has requested more information from Albany police about this incident. The El Cerrito police blotter says that around 12:40 p.m. El Cerrito police responded to a report of a hit-and-run collision in the 200 block of Behrens, where they determined that a 19-year-old Albany man had stolen his friend's car, got into an accident and fled the scene. The man was turned over to Albany police and booked for theft, according to El Cerrito police.]

Credit card fraud – At 1:40 p.m., a reporting party in the police lobby reported that the reporting party's credit card was fraudulently used at Am/Pm on San Pablo on June 8. Disposition: Case report taken.

Teen with axe walks past Marin school – At 8:33 p.m., a person in the police lobby reporting seeing a male teen, 16-17 years old, with red hair, white shirt and jeans walking with an axe over his shoulder eastbound on Marin past Marin Elementary School. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Counterfeit money – At 9:02 p.m., police received a report of attempt to use counterfeit money having just occurred at the Albany Hill Mini Mart on San Pablo. The bills looked as though they were made on a copy machine. The suspect was described as a black male, about 30 years old, 5-feet 8-inches tall, 170 pounds, last seen going north on San Pablo in a white Nissan. Disposition: Log note only.

Boy found in daughter's room – At 11:34 p.m., a father reported police that a 15-year-old male was found in his daughter's room on Key Route. He wants the boy's parents notified.
