Police Calls: Alleged Home Burglars Arrested, Lots of Thefts, Rabid Skunk

The Albany police logs for July 22-23 include arrests of two El Sobrante residents on suspicion of home burglary, a Rottweiller attacking another dog at Albany Bulb, and thefts of two vehicles, a mink coat, two laptops and many other items.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Wednesday, July 24

Drug arrest – At 12:06 a.m., police arrested an Albany male at Marin and San Pablo on suspicion of illegal possession of a controlled substance. The arrest followed an 11:57 p.m. log entry of a check of a pedestrian at the same location.

Stolen vehicle – At 1:15 p.m., police received a report of vehicle stolen the day before on Pierce. The vehicle is registered to the reporting party's mother. Disposition: Log note only.

Theft of mink coat, gold ring, sterling silver, evening gown – At 2:53 p.m., police received a report of the loss of a mink coat, a long, beaded evening dress, sterling silver and an 18k gold ring when the reporting party was moving out of a building. Disposition: Case report taken.

Employee problem at Target – At 2:58 p.m., police logged a "petty theft" report saying there was an "internal issue" with an employee upstairs and that Target wants her out of the business. Disposition: Case report taken. 

Vehicle burglary – At 3:51 p.m., police received a report a laptop inside a backpack and headphones taken from the trunk of a vehicle at House of Curries on Solano. Disposition: Log note only.

Found luggage – At 5:37 p.m., police received a report of luggage found near the sidewalk on Pomona. Disposition: Log note only.

Beverage shoplifted – At 6:07 p.m., police received a report of man with long hair who left with a beverage that he didn't pay for at the Arco Am/Pm on San Pablo. Disposition: Log note only.

iPhone, Macbook stolen at AMS – At 7:10 p.m., police received a report of an iPhone 4 and Macbook Pro taken at Albany Middle School. The reporting party said there were a lot of football players around at the time of the theft. Disposition: Case report taken.

Rabid skunk in garage – At 7:45 p.m., police received a report of rabid skunk in a garage on Jackson. The reporting party wants assistance. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Vehicle burglary – At 8:36 p.m., police received a report of a gym bag taken from an auto sometime since Monday. Entry was gained through a passenger door. The loss was not major, except that the car lock was damaged. Disposition: Case report taken.

Locked in park restroom – At 9:28 p.m., police received a report from someone whose friend was locked in a public restroom near the children's play structure at Memorial Park. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Residential burglary, ID theft arrests – At 9:49 p.m., police arrested an El Sobrante female at 5555 Giant Highway on suspicion of residential burglary and identity theft. (Editor's note: The address 1555 Giant Highway in Richmond is the location of the west county jail for Contra Costa County. The arrest log also shows the July 18 arrest of an El Sobrante male on suspicion of residential burglary. His arrest has the same case number as that of the female's arrest, and his home address is the same as hers.)

Thursday, July 25

Vehicle burglary – At 8:31 a.m., police received a report of purse taken within the past 15 minutes from a vehicle on Cornell whose window was smashed. No thief was seen. Disposition: Case report taken.

Petty theft – At 8:50 a.m., police logged a "petty theft" report on Cornell described as a "cold theft." Disposition: Case report taken.

Litter from Albany Bowl patrons – At 9:34 a.m., police received a complaint from a person in the police lobby saying customers from the bowling alley were leaving trash on the person's property. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Stolen vehicle – At 10:59 a.m., police received a report of a vehicle whose keys had been left inside being stolen on Kains. No thief was seen. Disposition: Case report taken.

Lost wallet – At 12:44 p.m., police received a report of a brown, 2-inch-square wallet that was left on the hood of a vehicle around 11 a.m. at Solano and Ramona. Disposition: Log note only.

Identity theft – At 2:32 p.m., police received a report from a resident saying she received a letter saying that her health care information and Social Security number may have been compromised and that her name was used to open a Verizon account. Disposition: Case report taken.

Spraying air freshener – At 3:35 p.m., police received a complaint of a man with dark curly hair and a woman with red hair accompanied by a dog spraying air freshener, last seen on Marin heading toward San Pablo. Disposition: Log note only.

Possible up-skirt photos – At 5:31 p.m., police received a report of man trying to take photos in a shop at Solano and Sante Fe. The reporting party thinks the man was trying to take up-skirt picture of a woman. Disposition: Case report taken. 

Driver who side-swiped truck tells police – At 9:08 p.m., police received a report from a driver who said she side-swiped a truck earlier today at the Smoke Shop on Solano. The truck drove away, possibly with no damage. The reporting party has damage to her vehicle. She doesn't want it to be construed as a hit and run. Disposition: Log note only.

Dog attacks dog at Bulb – At 9:16 p.m., police received a report from a person whose dog on a leash was attacked on the road to the Albany Bulb by a large Rottweiller weighing 80-90 pounds. The reporting party thinks her dog was not injured. The Rottweiler was accompanied by a male with two other dogs and two females last seen heading away from the Bulb. The male was described as being in his early 20s and "not making sense." One female was described as having very long blond hair and the other had a scarf on her head. Disposition: Case report taken.
