Police Calls: Arguing Couple Arrested, Home Burglary, Bank Fee Dispute

The Albany police log for Friday, March 22, includes hit and run damage to car, the arrest of a couple arguing on Jackson Street at 11:24 p.m., an elderly man possibly scammed of money and a 911 call over a bank customer upset about fees.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

Friday, March 22

Warrant arrest – A male transient on a bicycle was arrested at 2:37 a.m. in the 900 block of Buchanan on an outstanding warrant.

Grand theft? – A caller who is a friend and neighbor of an elderly male on Pierce reported that the man is being scammed over the phone and has sent money in a possible case of theft from an elder. Disposition: Log note only.

Theft – A person in the police lobby at 9:30 a.m. reported the theft of plate missing on Cornell.

Upset bank customer – Police received a 911 call at 2:47 p.m. about a verbal dispute at the Bank of America on Solano. A woman accompanied by a minor was "upset over a fee issue." She departed the bank. The request for police to come was canceled by the bank manager.

Hit and run – A person in the police station lobby at 2:55 p.m. reported hit and run damage in the parking garage of a building on San Pablo. Disposition: Log note only.

Vehicle accident – An accident involving two vehicles at Marin and San Pablo was reported at 3:56 p.m. The person making the report was in one of the vehicles and complained of minor back or neck pain. The other vehicle contained a female and two children who were not injured.

Road hazard, flat tire – At 4:22 p.m., a caller reported screws and nails all over the roadway at Eastshore and Buchanan and that he thinks they caused him to have a flat tire.

Theft – A person in the police station lobby at 4:52 p.m. reported that income tax was taken from a mail box on Marin on March 14.

Residential burglary – At 10:56 p.m., a burglary was reported on Talbot sometime after 6:30 p.m. that evening when no one was home.

Arguing couple arrested – A man and a woman who were arguing in the street on Jackson were arrested at 11:24 p.m. on suspicion of violating section 647(f) of the state Penal Code, sometimes referred to as "drunk in public" or "drunk and disorderly." That section says misdemeanor disorderly conduct includes being under the influence of alcohol or drugs in public to the degree that the person is unable to care for his or her own safety or the safety of others or obstructs a public right of way. The man was listed as a transient, and the woman is a San Rafael resident.
