Police Calls: Armed Robbery at Pacific East Mall, Eat & Run Without Paying

The Albany police log for July 6-7 includes an armed robbery at Pacific East Mall, a stolen car, two hit and run accidents, and a man skipping out on his bill at Rendez-Vous Cafe on Solano Avenue.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Saturday, July 6

DUI arrest – At 1:28 a.m. police stopped a Crockett male at Buchanan and Fillmore and arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Man cutting garbage cans with knife – At 7:25 a.m., police received a report that a bearded man in a brown leather jacket was "carving on" garbage cans with a knife at Castro and Adams. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.

Man didn't pay for meal – At 9:28 a.m., police received a report that a man left the Rendez-Vous Cafe on Solano without paying his bill and that he was on the corner of Solano and San Pablo. Disposition: Civil matter – parties advised. 

Non-injury accident – At 10:22 a.m., police received a report of non-injury accident involving two vehicles at Brighton and San Pablo. The vehicles are going to exchange information, and the reporting party just wanted a record of reporting the accident. Disposition: Log note only.

Auto burglary – At 11:17 a.m., police received a report of a burglary to vehicle with windows smashed on Pierce. Disposition: Case report taken.

Hit and run – At 3:57 p.m., police received a report of a parked car at Memorial Park being hit by a Toyota Camry at 3 p.m. The reporting party had been contacted by another person who had been asked to call by the driver, who faced a language barrier. Disposition: Log note only.

Found wallet – At 8:04 p.m., police received a report of a brown wallet found on Portland near Memorial Park. Disposition: Log note only.

Sunday, July 7

Non-injury accident – At 1:28 p.m., police received a report of non-injury vehicle accident at Albany Video Service on Solano. Disposition: Log note only.

Auto theft – A person came to the police station at 2:05 p.m. to report a vehicle stolen the previous evening on Dartmouth. Disposition: Case report taken.

Hit and run – At 4:12 p.m., police received a report of a vehicle a parked vehicle and causing damage at Solano and Santa Fe. The responsible vehicle sped off going west on Solano. Disposition: Case report taken.

Robbery at Pacific East Mall – At 6:18 p.m., police received a 911 call of a gun pulled during a fight in the rear parking lot at Pacific East Mall on Pierce. Five minutes later, at 6:23 p.m., a person in the police lobby reported a robbery by four men with a gun at Pacific East Mall. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency. (Editor's note: Pacific East Mall is in Richmond.)

Person taking scrap metal admonished – At 8:51 p.m., police logged officer-initiated activity on Cleveland involving a vehicle parked in front of a chainlink fence and a small amount of scrap metal being taken from a recently demolished building. "The scrap metal was returned and he was admonished," the log said.
