Police Calls: Arrest After Outdoor Dancing, Shed Vandals, Burglaries on Talbot and More

JULY 11, WEDNESDAY

2:46 p.m. Someone broke into a home in the 1000 block of Tevlin Street; a bathroom window screen was missing. 

3:05 p.m. A male reported that a woman at Albany High School threatened him, and that she may have had mental health issues.

4:17 p.m. Someone in the 1000 block of San Pablo Avenue asked police questions regarding a found gun. 

5:46 p.m. A thief stole a red child's Trek bike with orange flames from a home on Stannage Avenue the prior night. 

6:22 p.m. Someone found a bike on Stannage matching the description above of the stolen bike.

7:55 p.m. Police arrested Luis Bustamante of Albany in the 900 block of San Pablo Avenue on suspicion of public intoxication. He was taken to the Glenn Dyer Detention Facility in downtown Oakland. 

10:32 p.m. Someone on Adams Street reported a transient male yelling and having an episode of some kind, but police were unable to locate him. 

11:10 p.m. Police arrested Gabriel Benshalom on suspicion of driving under the influence at the Albany waterfront. He was released on a citation to appear in court. 

JULY 12, THURSDAY

10:21 a.m. A thief stole a planter box off a front porch on Peralta Avenue "during the hours of darkness."

5:36 p.m. A thief stole a debit card from the 1000 block of Kains Avenue. 

5:47 p.m. A caller near Memorial Park reported six dogs in the park during no-dog hours. Police were unable to locate them. 

8:11 p.m. Police arrested two male minors after a report that they were painting a shed behind a business in the 500 block of Kains; they were released to parents with a notice to appear in court. 

9:46 p.m. Police arrested Sachiko Okano of Albany on suspicion of driving under the influence at Brighton and Kains avenues. She was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail. 

JULY 13, FRIDAY

6:48 a.m. A thief broke into a vehicle in the 1000 block of Neilson Street overnight. 

7:19 a.m. A thief broke into a vehicle in the 1100 block of Curtis Street overnight. 

1:03 p.m. Police arrested a 16-year-old boy from Berkeley after a neighbor reported suspicious activity in the 900 block of Talbot Avenue. Police found . A second suspect escaped. 

2:06 p.m. The summer principal at Albany Middle School reported a fight between two students. 

3:49 p.m. A thief stole a red road bike from Talbot Avenue and another bike was found nearby. 

6:03 p.m. A woman on Clay Street found a stolen purse in her yard, which turned out to have been .

6:51 p.m. Someone reported a man dancing in the street and "acting strange" at Evelyn and Solano avenues. 

7:01 p.m. A thief stole a laptop from a vehicle in the 1500 block of Solano Avenue. 

7:34 p.m. Police arrested Luis Bustamante of Albany on suspicion of public intoxication at Solano and San Pablo avenues. He was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail. 

7:46 p.m. Police arrested Aubrey Holmes, listed as transient, after a report of a man dancing around and bothering pedestrians on the sidewalk across from Safeway. Police said Holmes had burglary tools and stolen property in his possession.

8:53 p.m. Someone dumped a load of broken concrete at the cove at the Albany waterfront. 

10:25 p.m. A caller reported juveniles in their late teens throwing glass bottles in the street at Portland Avenue and Key Route Boulevard. Police were unable to locate them. 

11:49 p.m. Someone reported a loud party in the teacher parking lot at Albany Middle School; police were unable to locate the source of the complaint. 

JULY 14, SATURDAY

12:02 a.m. Police found abandoned property at Albany Middle School.

1:40 a.m. Police arrested Jorge Olague of Berkeley on suspicion of driving under the influence in the 900 block of Adams Street after a report of a wrong-way driver. He was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail. 

2:04 a.m. Police arrested Crystal Dove of Richmond on suspicion of driving under the influence at Solano Avenue and Jackson Street. She was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail. 

2:54 p.m. A man reported that someone had taken money out of his trust account and purchased an RV. 

3:38 p.m. An ambulance was called after a report of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian near Al's Big Burger. Police said, after investigating, they learned that an elderly man with a cane had fallen down after a driver beeped at him to stop him from walking into another car, which was parked in a nearby driveway. The ambulance was canceled after it was determined there was no injury to the man and there had been no contact with the vehicle before he fell.

4:37 p.m. A caller reported a dog park violation at Memorial Park. Police were unable to locate it. 

5:26 p.m. Someone found a purple Giant bike on Neilson Street and turned it over to police. 

6:31 p.m. Police arrested Mark Williams of Berkeley on suspicion of public intoxication at Solano and San Pablo avenues. He was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail. 

8:40 p.m. Someone reported six teenagers drinking and smoking in a garage and yard area on Stannage Avenue; police issued a citation. 

9:09 p.m. Police took four minors into custody after receiving a report that they had been climbing onto the roof of Marin Elementary School; they were released to parents on a citation to appear in juvenile court. 

11:07 p.m. Someone on Evelyn reported a possible burglary attempt after four men in their early 20s, including one with bushy hair and a beard, and one with a headlamp, were looking at a gray Chevrolet with tinted windows. Police were unable to locate them. 

11:16 p.m. A caller reported four people on a roof on Brighton Avenue, but police couldn't find them. 

11:58 p.m. Someone reported a vehicle theft at San Pablo and Garfield avenues. 

JULY 15, SUNDAY

4 p.m. A man in his 50s with blonde hair wearing a jean jacket and green hat was reported to be causing a disturbance at San Carlos and Portland avenues, and yelling racial slurs. Police separated the disputing parties. 

9:04 p.m. Someone reported fireworks being set off on Curtis Street. 

10:05 p.m. Someone at Round Table Pizza called 911 about a customer refusing to leave. 

JULY 16, MONDAY

12:56 a.m. A caller from San Pablo Avenue reported that a homeless man had just broken something inside a store, then left on a bike. Police were unable to find him. 

1:07 a.m. A caller from Stannage reported a subject going through the recycling can. Police were unable to find the collector.

  • On July 17, the Berkeley Police Department reported the arrest of Richelle Porter, 26, of Albany on suspicion of petty theft.
