Police Calls: Arrests at Safeway & Happy Donut, Teens Throw Rocks at Person

The Albany police logs for Dec. 30-31 include police being called twice, once on 911, for a dispute between neighbors on Carmel, a shoplifting arrest at Safeway, an arrest at Happy Donut, a purse stolen at Target and a screaming, cursing man.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Monday, Dec. 30

911 call, fight with baseball bat – At 9:29 a.m., police received a report of a fight involving a baseball bat at Franklin and Delaware in Berkeley. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Auto break-in, won't start – At 10:19 a.m., police received a report that a woman's vehicle on Cerrito was broken into sometime last night and now won't start. Disposition: Case report taken.

Recovered stolen vehicle – At 12:34 p.m., police logged a report of a vehicle stolen out of El Cerrito recovered on Hillside. Disposition: Case report taken.

Bad check – At 1:45 p.m., a person reported receiving a bad check from someone but there were no funds in the bank. Disposition: Civil matter – parties advised.

Vehicle runs into business – At 2:30 p.m., police received a report of a vehicle running into a business on Solano. The reporting party said it didn't look like the driver was injured but he was still in the vehicle. Disposition: Case report taken.

Vehicle accident, possible injury – At 2:41 p.m., police logged a report titled "Vehicle Accident – No Injury" whose description said, "Vehicle vs. vehicle with injury" at Cigarette Discounters on San Pablo. The accident was blocking traffic. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Hit and run with damage – At 4:53 p.m., police received a report of a hit and run with damage to a vehicle parked on Cornell earlier today. Disposition: Case report taken.

Safeway shoplifting, probation arrest – At 5:09 p.m., police arrested a 48-year-old man at Solano and Ensenada in Berkeley on suspicion of petty theft and violating probation. The arrest followed a report of man in a bright blue 76ers jersey taking a lot of personal hygiene items at Safeway.

Outstanding warrant arrest – At 7:23 p.m., police arrested a 52-year-old transient male at Target on an outstanding, no-bail warrant.

Drug paraphernalia, probation arrest – At 9:09 p.m., police arrested a 61-year-transient male at 500 Buchanan on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia and violating probation. The arrest followed a 9:04 p.m. report of an officer-initiated activity at Waterfront Park.

Tuesday, Dec. 31

Arrest for burglary, defrauding Happy Donut – At 5:30 a.m., police arrested a 47-year-old transient male at Happy Donut on San Pablo on suspicion of commercial burglary and defrauding Happy Donut.

Accused of stealing – At 10:36 a.m., a person reported being accused of stealing by an older woman with short hair and a light-colored jacket. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Residential burglary – At 12:26 p.m., police received a report of a residential burglary on Key Route between Friday and today. The reporting party has cleared the residence and suspect that narcotic activity is occurring at the location. Disposition: Case report taken.

Targeted by teens throwing rocks – At 3:22 p.m., police received a report that two teens with backpacks threw rocks at the reporting party walking southbound at Peralta and Sonoma three minutes ago. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Purse stolen at Target – At 3:48 p.m., police received a report of a purse taken from Target at about 2:30 p.m. Disposition: Case report taken.

Neighbors verbal altercation – At 6:30 p.m., police received a report of a neighbor verbal dispute on Carmel. It's an ongoing issue. Disposition: Disputing parties separated – matter resolved.

911 call on neighbors dispute – At 6:32 p.m., police received a 911 call from the other neighbor involved in the dispute that was phoned in two minutes earlier. The log entry says, "Abandoned..on call back." Disposition: Log note only.

Warning to screaming, cursing man – Log entries at 9:11 p.m. and 9:34 p.m. say that police issued a warning to man in a raider jacket who was yelling, screaming and cursing at people parked in the parking lot behind the Albany Twin theater. The man went into a business and exited a couple of times and then got into his car and sped up and down the street multiple times before parking and staring into the business.
