Police Calls: Arrests for Fraudulent Store Returns, Stolen Bike, Teens Hopping on Pods

The Albany police log for April 13-14 includes reports of several possible burglary attempts, a bike stolen from a locked vehicle, two females arrested at Target for alleged return fraud and counterfeit $100 bill at Target.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

Saturday, April 13

Burglary attempt? – A 2:08 a.m., police received a call from a person traveling in a van on San Pablo who reported seeing a man who appeared to be trying to break into the front door of Max's Liquors. The van looped around, and the suspect was gone. Police were not able to locate the suspect.

Burglary attempt? – At 2:14 a.m., police received a report of someone trying to open a front door on Talbot about three minutes earlier. The reporting party yelled through the door, and the unseen suspect was heard running off. Police were not able to locate the suspect.

Man with gun – At 9:49 a.m., police received a report of a man hanging out on the right side of the Metro PCS store on San Pablo about five minutes earlier with a covered head and a black handgun. Police were not able to locate the man.

Foot run over – At 4:22 p.m., a man reported that a woman about 60 years old drove over his foot as she was leaving in a tan sedan on Curtis. He said medical response was needed.

Juvenile problem – At 5:09 p.m., police received a report of 10 teens on a pod roof at Marin Elementary School and jumping from pod to pod and playing basketball on pods. A warning was given.

Counterfeit $100 bill – At 5:19 p.m., police received a report of a "guest in store with counterfeit 100 bill." The suspect was described as a balding Asian American man about 40 years old with tan jacket, tan pants and black shoes. 

Vandalism – At 6:07 p.m., police received a report of window broken in room 23 at Ocean View Elementary School.

Suspicious persons – At 8:31 p.m., a resident on Ramona reported robbers in front of his house. He said three men and a woman were vandalizing and he was afraid they would vandalize his house. Disposition: Matter or reported situation checks out O.K.

Sunday, April 14

Bike stolen – A bicycle was taken from a locked vehicle on Curtis sometime overnight.

Threatening man arrested – At 10:39 a.m., police received a report that a man sitting on a bench at Dartmouth and Portland yelled at a jogger and threatened to beat him up if he came back. The man on the bench appeared unstable. The man, a Richmond resident, was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Auto burglary – A vehicle on Spokane was reported to have been gone through sometime the previous night.

Cell phone theft – At 2 p.m., police received a report of a cell phone taken from a taxi and that the phone was showing up on iCloud as being at an address on Evelyn. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Burglary/petty theft arrests – Two females – one unemployed from Richmond and the other a transient – were arrested at Target at 6:22 p.m. on suspicion of burglarly and petty theft. The arrests followed a report to police at 5:43 p.m. that the two were being held at the store for "return fraud" valued at $80.

Vandalism – At 7:50 p.m., police received a report that back window was shattered with nothing taken at Tala Apartment on Taft.
