Police Calls: AT&T Reps, Loud Crash, Several Auto Burglaries

The Albany police logs for Aug. 19-20 include callers suspicious of two men claiming to represent AT&T, several auto burglaries, a recovered stolen car at Albany Bowl and a report of the a sound of a speeding vehicle followed by a loud crash

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Monday, Aug. 19

Signs of attempted forced entry – At 8:16 a.m., police received a report of signs of attempted forced entry into a garage side door on Cornell, possibly between midnight and 7 a.m. No entry was made. The reporting party was calling only to have a record of the incident. Disposition: Log note only.

Stolen catalytic converter – At 9:59 a.m., police logged a grand theft report of a catalytic converter stolen sometime between Saturday night and this morning on Pierce. Disposition: Case report taken.

Stereo faceplate, change stolen – At 10:07 a.m., police received a report of stereo faceplate and change taken sometime overnight on San Carlos. There was no sign of forced entry. The reporting party didn't want a report at this time, just a record of the incident. Disposition: Log note only.

Flashlight, pillow stolen – At 12:22 p.m., police received a report of flashlight and pillow taken from a vehicle on Ordway last night. It was unknown if teh vehicle was locked. The door was found unlocked and ajar. The reporting party wanted just a record of the incident. Disposition: Log note only.

Suspicious man in AT&T uniform and companion – At 2:32 p.m., police received a report of man in an AT&T uniform with a man not in uniform about five minutes ago on Curtis last seen heading toward the high school. The reporting party would like the area checked. Disposition: Matter or reported situation checks out O.K.

Again, suspicious man in AT&T uniform and companion – At 5:16 p.m., police received a report of a man in a white AT&T shirt accompanied by another man in a brown shirt talking about switching form copper to fiber optic. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Loud crash heard – At 11:48 p.m., a person reported to police hearing a vehicle speeding and then a loud crash in the area of Cleveland and Washington. Disposition: Log note only.

Tuesday, Aug. 20

Outstanding warrant arrest – Police arrested a 44-year-old transient man, whose occupation was listed as a painter, at Target on an outstanding warrant. The arrest followed a 1:24 a.m. log entry of unspecified "officer initiated activity at Target, Eastshore/2nd, Berkeley. South end of lot."

Recovered stolen vehicle at Albany Bowl – At 2:58 a.m., police logged a "recovered stolen vehicle" entry of officer initiated activity at Albany Bowl. Disposition: Case report taken.

Auto burglary – At 8:27 a.m., police received a report of a cold vehicle burglary on Neilson. Disposition: Case report taken.
