Police Calls: BB Guns, Shotgun Shells, Craigslist Robbery, Package Thefts and More

MARCH 7

10:15 a.m. Someone on Pierce Street reported people on Albany Hill cooking and camping out. Police found the camp deserted when they responded.

10:31 a.m. Someone cut a bolt on a garage door in the 900 block of Peralta Avenue and tried to get inside the prior day.

12:12 p.m. A man tried to call his Washington Avenue home and someone else answered the phone, though no one was supposed to be there. Police responded but found no sign of anyone inside.

1:03 p.m. A cyclist went into the Police Department to report that he near San Pablo and Washington avenues around 8 a.m. Police took a case report.

1:57 p.m. A white package was stolen off a front porch in the 1200 block of Washington sometime between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. 

3:09 p.m. Someone left a box of shotgun shells in his or her mother-in-law's yard on Neilson Street.

4:53 p.m. Someone broke into a vehicle parked near the waterfront on Buchanan Street and stole a purse.

8:19 p.m. Someone reported that a package had been stolen from the 700 block of Evelyn Avenue during the afternoon.

MARCH 8

1:14 a.m. Police arrested Christian Ismael Dambolena of Berkeley on suspicion of driving under the influence near Gilman Street and Kains Avenue in Berkeley. He was taken to the Glenn Dyer Detention Facility in downtown Oakland.

11:01 a.m. Someone at Golden Gate Fields requested police help for a customer trying to pass counterfeit bills.

11:55 a.m. Someone on Kains reported two heavyset males in their 20s who rang the doorbell, then went into the backyard when no one answered. When they saw the resident, they fled. Police were unable to locate them. 

2:23 p.m. Someone confiscated a BB gun from a student on Solano Avenue. 

8:14 p.m. A woman reported the theft of her black Coach purse, containing a checkbook, cash and credit cards, from Little Star Pizza. 

MARCH 9

10:37 a.m. A vehicle on Neilson was ransacked the prior night.

7:25 p.m. Someone reported a 6-month-old kitten trapped on a telephone pole on Evelyn Avenue.

8:21 p.m. Someone reported a "large unsupervised teenage party developing" on San Carlos Avenue. Police took a case report.

MARCH 10

10:53 a.m. Someone ripped out and took "the device that keeps cats away" from a home on Key Route Boulevard.

2:22 p.m. Officers responded to what appeared to be by the Police Department, and took a case report. 

4 p.m. Someone stole the vehicle of a Target employee, which was parked in the north expansion lot in the 1000 block of Eastshore Highway, while he was at work.

4:58 p.m. Police recovered a stolen vehicle from Target. 

6:58 p.m. Someone on Key Route arrived home to find a load of rock and concrete in the driveway.

7:11 p.m. Police responded to after someone had a meeting in the 1000 block of Ventura Avenue, set up via Craigslist, regarding a car sale. 

11:28 p.m. Someone reported loud music and noise at the Ivy Room.

11:32 p.m. Someone reported a large group of intoxicated people in the parking lot of the Hotsy Totsy Club.

MARCH 11

1:10 a.m. Police arrested Ramon Ramirez of Hercules on suspicion of driving under the influence in the 1000 block of Solano Avenue. He was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail, and his car was towed.

1:22 a.m. Officers gave a warning to someone at the Ivy Room.

3:24 a.m. Police arrested Murray Daniel Gilmur Raymond of Oakland on suspicion of driving under the influence at San Pablo and Buchanan. He was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail.

1:51 p.m. A woman walked into Albany Arts Gallery then left the store with a couple greeting cards without paying for them. Police gave her a warning.

1:54 p.m. A vandal threw yellow powder into a garage on Evelyn, covering vehicles with it. 

3:37 p.m. Someone on Pierce Street reported being harassed by a Home Owner's Association member. 

4:14 p.m. Police arrested John Richard Kannon, an Albany Bulb resident, on suspicion of domestic violence and probation violation. He was taken to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin. [Update: A woman was taken to the hospital for stitches after this incident.]

6:49 p.m. Someone walking at the Albany Bulb reported a man in his 30s covered in blood, with long curly hair, walking along the waterfront. The caller said "he looked crazed and was headed back into the camps, and was possibly intoxicated."  took him to the hospital. Police later said he was intoxicated and could not recall how he was injured.

MARCH 12

12:49 a.m. Someone stole a cell phone from a customer at Albany Bowl.

9:50 a.m. Police gave a warning to someone collecting recycling on Kains.

10:51 a.m. The Albany Bowl reported a man hanging out in the pool room asking for food and money. Police advised him of the complaint and asked him to leave. 

12:40 p.m. A resident of Portland Avenue said several of his or her fish had died after someone emptied a pond in the yard overnight.

4:03 p.m. The man from the earlier call to Albany Bowl returned to the pool room. Police again provided help. 

5:24 p.m. Police gave a warning to a man in a blue sweatshirt sitting on a bench near Royal Cafe drinking alcohol.

5:35 p.m. Someone reported a suspicious man in his 50s, balding with a white pickup truck, removing bolts from a mailbox on the corner of Cornell and Solano avenues. He turned out to be a postal employee.

8:33 p.m. Someone broke into a car parked near Albany High School and stole a cell phone. 

10:44 p.m. Someone on Key Route reported that the flag was still up at Albany High, "making lots of noise with the wind." Police corrected the situation.

MARCH 13

12:56 p.m. Someone reported a white man in his 30s with long hair, dark pants and a red hoodie in a Solano laundryroom "hanging out and urinating inside."

3:05 p.m. Someone at Tilden Preparatory School on Solano confiscated a BB gun from a student and asked police about turning it in for destruction.

4:44 p.m. A burglar broke into an apartment in the 500 block of Pierce sometime after 7 a.m.

5:20 p.m. Police noticed the traffic light at Marin and Santa Fe avenues was out in every direction due to a widespread power outage. PG&E estimated they would not be able to respond until 8 p.m. 

7:56 p.m. The responded to a call about an electric pole at Portland and Talbot avenues sparking and partially burning.
