Police Calls: Berkeley Student Arrested – Allegedly Tried to Smash Door

The Albany police log for April 6-7 includes the arrest of a shirtless, shoeless Berkeley student who allegedly tried to smash in the door of a home on Curtis in the early morning. Also reported was a man in a bra running on San Pablo.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

Saturday, April 6

Underage drinking – At 12:43 a.m., police received a 911 call reporting underage drinking at Santa Barbara and Arlington. Disposition: Referred to outside agency.

Pedestrian cited – At 1:10 a.m., police conducted a check of a pedestrian at San Pablo and Washington and issued a citation for a miscellaneous violation.

Pedestrian cited – At 1:21 a.m., police conducted a check of a pedestrian at San Pablo and Solano and issued a citation for a miscellaneous violation.

Pedestrian cited – At 1:33 a.m., police conducted a check of a pedestrian at Beverages & More on San Pablo and issued a citation for a miscellaneous violation.

Pedestrian cited – At 1:46 a.m., police conducted a check of a pedestrian at San Pablo and Solano and issued a citation for a miscellaneous violation.

Arrest on graffiti, drunk and disorderly – At 2:07 a.m., police conducted a pedestrian check of a male pedestrian from El Cerrito at Steve's Auto Care on San Pablo and made an arrest on suspicion of defacing with graffiti or other inscribed material and on suspicion of being under the influence to an unsafe degree or obstructing a public right of way.

Drunk or disorderly arrest – At 4:18 a.m., officers received a report of a man in jeans and no shirt or shoes trying to smash in the reporting party's front door on Curtis. The man said he was in a fraternity and trying to find someplace to sleep. At 4:35 a.m. police arrested a male Berkeley student on Francis and Nielson on suspicion of being under the influence to an unsafe degree or obstructing a public right of way.

Auto burglary – At 9:12 a.m., police received a report of converter taken from an auto whose back window was smashed during the previous evening.

Large railroad sign stolen – At 12:21 p.m., police received a report of a large yellow railroad sign with a black X taken overnight on Marin.

Gas valve taken – At 3:50 p.m., police received a report of gas shut-off valve for earthquakes taken Thursday on Ordway.

Sunday, April 7

House egged, toilet-papered – At 3:15 a.m., police received a report of house on Dartmouth near the park being "egged and tp'd." The reporting party people running off and cars in the area.

Suspicious running man in bra – At 4:31 p.m., police received a report of a man in red underwear and a white bra running barefoot in the street on San Pablo Avenue going southbound just past Castro and trying door handles. El Cerrito police in the area said the man would run away when they attempted contact.
