Police Calls: Child Hit by Car, Bees Turn on Beekeeper, Pit Bull Complaints

The Albany police logs for Sept. 2-3 include an injury accident involving a vehicle-vs.-child, a stolen vehicle on Kains, complaints about pit bulls, and a beekeeper who wants free removal of her bees because they are coming inside and stinging her.

The following information was obtained from the 
daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Monday, Sept. 2

DUI arrest
 – At 12:30 a.m., police arrested a 51-year-old San Jose woman at San Pablo and Solano on suspicion of driving under the influence and having a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more.

Scratched vehicle – At 12:32 a.m., a person reported that someone scratched his vehicle on Kains. Disposition: Case report taken. 

Stolen bike – At 10:12 a.m., police logged a report that an officer was flagged down for a stolen bike report at Brighton and Evelyn. Disposition: Case report taken.

Apparent burglars in white gloves speed off – At 2:42 p.m. police logged a "Burglary" report that 3-4 juveniles wearing white gloves ran out of a residence on Jackson, got into a vehicle and sped off toward Castro. Disposition: Case report taken.

Attempted burglary – At 2:57 p.m., police received a report of attempted residential burglary on Jackson. Disposition: Case report taken.

Tuesday, Sept. 3

Arrest on giving false ID to police 
– At 5:41 a.m., police arrested a 27-year-old Eureka woman at Solano and San Pablo on suspicion of giving false identification to police.

Lunging pit bull, off-leash pit bull – At 9:44 a.m., a person reported a pit bull inside Christopher's Nothing Fancy Cafe on San Pablo lunged at the reporting party as he passed, and that the reporting party also saw a pit bull off-leash walking with its owner in front of the Albany police department. The reporting party was advised that Albany doesn't have a leash law. The reporting party didn't want to speak or wait for an officer, just wanted to report a large, off-leash pit bull. Dispostion: Police/medical/fire assistance refused.

Vehicle stolen – At 11:51 a.m., police received a report of vehicle taken sometime yesterday or during the night on Kains. Disposition: Case report taken.

Under attack from her own bees – At 12:06 p.m., police received a request from a resident at Brittany Arms on Kains, asking for free service to remove her bees and hive(s), who have made a hole in her wall and are coming in and stinging her. She declined a medical response and said she cannot afford to pay a service. Disposition: Assistance given to outside agency.

Petty theft at racetrack – At 12:22 p.m., police logged a report of petty theft yesterday at Golden Gate Fields. Disposition: Case report taken.

Auto burglary – At 1:42 p.m., police received a report of a cold auto burglary that occurred in the past 36 hours on Kains. Disposition: Case report taken.

Hit and run with damage – At 3:44 p.m., police received a report of a hit and run that caused damage five minutes ago on Portland. The reporting party received minimal information from a neighbor. The type of vehicle that fled and the direction it went were not provided. A subsequent log entry at 3:49 p.m. references this entry and says an officer who was flagged down at Ramona and Portland took a case report.

Child hit by vehicle – At 4:46 p.m., police logged a "Vehicle Accident – Injury" report of a vehicle-vs.-child accident at Solano and Ramona. Disposition: Case report taken. (Editor's note: In response to a request for more information from Patch, police said the person struck by the vehicle was a 17-year-old male who dashed into the street in front of a slow-moving vehicle and immediately jumped up after being hit. The youth appeared not to have been seriously injured, except for complaining of pain to his right side and rib area, for which he was transported to a local hospital, police said.)

Drunk/disorderly arrest – At 10:46 p.m., police arrested a 26-year-old man at San Pablo and Solano on suspicion of being under the influence to an unsafe degree or obstructing a public right of way.

Man yelling – At 11:48 p.m., police received a report of what sounded like a man screaming or yelling on Ramona. Disposition: Responsible/s advised of complaint, will correct situation.
