Police Calls: Safe Deposit Box Bullets, Afternoon Egging, Frightened People and More

Wednesday, AUG. 29

6:33 a.m. Police took a case report about "pollutant discharge" near the southeast corner of Brighton and Masonic avenues. 

2:32 p.m. A thief went into a car on Jackson Street and rifled through it, taking change from the trunk.

5:03 p.m. Police responded to a verbal dispute at Solano and Pomona avenues; a 50-year-old man with a mustache, beard and maroon shirt hit a car with his fist. Authorities separated the disputing parties. 

5:08 p.m. Police responded to a complaint about a growing homeless encampment, including shopping carts, on Masonic Avenue. The caller was concerned about the situation becoming a public health hazard due to the absence of a bathroom. 

Thursday, AUG. 30

12:39 a.m. Police arrested Matthew Kish of Oakland after a report of an intoxicated customer, in basketball shorts and a tie-dye shirt, at the refusing to leave; he was taken to the Glenn Dyer Detention Facility in downtown Oakland.

8:05 a.m. A thief stole a vehicle from the 900 block of Cerrito Street the prior night. 

8:41 a.m. Police took a case report about a former student who had been expelled last year and was seen trespassing on campus the prior day. 

11:15 a.m. Someone at found drugs, and turned them in to detectives who were "on scene making (an) unrelated arrest." (No further information was available in the bulletin.)

4:45 p.m. A Concord resident called Albany Police to report a theft from his or her vehicle while dining at on Aug. 26.

7:36 p.m. Someone on Evelyn Avenue called about harassing calls her daughter was receiving from a classmate. Police took a case report. 

Friday, AUG. 31

9:24 a.m. Police arrested an Albany man on suspicion of domestic battery; he was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail.

2:02 p.m. A resident in the 500 block of Jackson Street reported a home burglary.

2:06 p.m. Police recovered a stolen vehicle at Solano and Neilson Street. 

2:15 p.m. A caller from Solano Avenue told police she'd found bullets in a safe deposit box and wanted to turn them in in exchange for a receipt; police told her that "we don't keep bullets for safe keeping." The woman said she would speak with her supervisor and call back. 

4:29 p.m. Police received a report from someone near Kains and Portland avenues about four to five juveniles throwing eggs. 

6:13 p.m. Police received a report of kids in a vehicle egging kids who were walking; the vehicle was last seen northbound on Masonic. 

7:03 p.m. Two men took alcohol from and left in a white Oldsmobile sedan. Lt. Dan Adams of the Albany Police Department said two men in their 20s were observed taking a bottle of alcohol and hiding it under their clothes, then walking out without paying for it. A store employee confronted them and demanded they return it; as he reached for the bottle, one of the men struck the employee's hand away. One of the men was described as in his mid-20s, black, 5 feet 11 inches tall and 200 pounds; he was wearing a gray jacket, red t-shirt and red baseball cap with blue jeans. The other man was said to be in his early-20s, also black, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 180 pounds. He was wearing a white thermal long-sleeved shirt and white pants, and had long black hair and facial hair. 

7:10 p.m. Police responded to a reported injury-accident involving a vehicle and a motorcycle at Solano and Pierce Street. 

10:42 p.m. Police arrested on suspicion of public intoxication at San Pablo and Brighton avenues. He was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail. 

11:28 p.m. Police arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed dirk or dagger. He was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail. 

Saturday, SEPT. 1

12:18 p.m. Someone reported a brush fire behind the USDA building. 

2:51 a.m. Police responded to a non-injury accident at San Pablo and Garfield avenues after the driver flipped the vehicle; the vehicle was towed. Police then arrested a minor at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence. 

10:43 a.m. Someone removed "coinage" from an unlocked vehicle in the 700 block of Talbot the prior night. 

7:15 p.m. Police took a case report about two men fighting at Albany Bowl. 

11:18 p.m. A man in the 900 block of Adams Street called police about an unknown woman who was trying to enter his house. Police took a case report and arrested  on suspicion of public intoxication. 

Sunday, SEPT. 2

1:21 a.m. Police arrested at Albany Bowl on suspicion of public intoxication after receiving a report that a man had grabbed a woman's rear end, causing the woman's boyfriend to get upset. 

12:30 p.m. Police arrested , transient, on suspicion of burglary, possessing a controlled substance and possessing a concealed weapon after he was reportedly at the on Buchanan Street trying to break a window with a pole. He was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail. 

4:17 p.m. Police arrested of San Francisco at Golden Gate Fields on suspicion of public intoxication and vandalism. He was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail. 

Monday, SEPT. 3

12:31 p.m. A woman with AT&T went into the Police Department lobby to drop off a "claim against the City."

12:36 p.m. A garbage truck hit a fire hydrant on Albany Terrace, causing a water spill but no injuries. 

4:55 p.m. A caller reported a broken water main at Monroe and San Pablo avenues.

Tuesday, SEPT. 4

6:37 a.m. A woman called to report that her husband's truck had been stolen from their home in the 900 block of Stannage Avenue sometime after 11 the prior night. 

8:42 a.m. A thief stole a construction box from Masonic and Dartmouth Street. 

2:52 p.m. A caller near Memorial Park reported of the park during an unauthorized time. 

4:08 p.m. Police received a transfer call from the California Highway Patrol, and noted "terrible cell phone connection," about a burglary in progress in the 1100 block of Marin Avenue. Police took a case report. 

Wednesday, SEPT. 5

1:17 a.m. Police received what they categorized as a "Frightened Person" call from a woman on Evelyn who said someone had just rung her doorbell and she wasn't sure who it was. 

3:34 a.m. A caller on Curtis Street reported a disturbance that sounded like someone cutting down trees in the area.

6:17 p.m. A bike owner took back his or her bike from a would-be thief at Curtis and Solano streets; the thief was described as a tall white male in his late 20s or early 30s with a long blond beard, black jeans and a white t-shirt. He left westbound from Safeway on Solano.

Thursday, SEPT. 6

1 a.m. Police made an arrest at Stannage and Brighton avenues for an outside-agency warrant. 

10:14 a.m. A thief stole a front license plate from a vehicle in the 600 block of San Carlos Avenue within the prior 48 hours. 

5:30 p.m. A woman at the reported that her wallet had been stolen from her purse around 11 a.m. 

8:26 p.m. A caller reported a residential burglary on Pierce Street the prior day. 

10:43 p.m. An officer recovered a stolen vehicle in the 600 block of Cleveland Avenue. 

Friday, SEPT. 7

5:57 a.m. A Pierce Street resident reported a vehicle that had been stolen overnight in the 800 block. 

12:47 p.m. A building manager in the 800 block of San Pablo called police to report that, 15 minutes earlier, when he had been inside the building with a plumber investigating a strange smell, the two in an office. He told police he didn't call immediately because he didn't want to alert the neighbors of the situation. Police took a case report. 

9:13 p.m. Someone near Portland and Cornell avenues called to report an out-of-control house party on Portland. Police advised the partygoers of the complaint. 

Saturday, SEPT. 8

2:02 a.m. Police received a "Frightened Person" call from someone reporting the sound of footsteps in the residence, on Santa Fe Avenue, but there turned out to be no problem. 

5:35 a.m. Someone on Kains Avenue reported the sound of a man yelling at the top of his lungs.

7:45 a.m. A woman on San Carlos called police to chastise them about visiting her home the prior day in response to a report of a barking dog; she told police she didn't want them to come to her house, and that they had scared her children. She also reported receiving an anonymous letter at her home, and told police she felt threatened and wanted them to investigate it. Police said she could bring the letter to the station for review. 

4:52 p.m. A resident near Washington Avenue and Key Route Boulevard went into the police lobby after his wife refused to let him into their home. 

5:11 p.m. Someone reported locking a baby in a vehicle, but the request for police was canceled.
