Police Calls: Found Handcuffs, Stray Bullet, Yelling with Scissors and More

JUNE 2, SATURDAY

11:33 a.m. A resident on Visalia Avenue found handcuffs on the pathway between her property and the residence next door. She turned them in to police dispatchers.

3:39 p.m. A resident at Tevlin Street and Terrace Path reported "lots of parking issues," including people parking on curbs and blocking driveways.

8:32 p.m. A Curtis Street resident said a couch "left outside for anyone to take for free has been converted into a flower bed."

10:12 p.m. A resident on Albany Terrace was disturbed by "woodworking noise" in a neighbor's workshop. Police gave the woodworker a warning. 

JUNE 3, SUNDAY

1:33 a.m. A condo resident on Pierce Street said a bullet came through the northern wall on the north side of the complex; it didn't cause any injuries. The caller said two vehicles were then seen exiting the Pacific East Mall. Police took a case report. 

1:56 a.m. Police arrested Juyan Antonio Garcia of Berkeley on suspicion of driving under the influence in the 500 block of San Pablo Avenue. He was taken to the Glenn Dyer Detention Facility. 

10:31 a.m. Someone reported a white man in his 40s wearing camouflage pants and a jacket looking in between houses and into cars, carrying a small gray bag, on Evelyn Avenue. 

2:59 p.m. A resident reported that a man wearing camouflage clothing, who possibly had a sign about being a veteran, pulled out a pair of scissors and began yelling at the caller's son and his girlfriend at Masonic and Brighton avenues. Police were unable to locate him. 

4:21 p.m. A woman on Masonic reported two people camping next to the creek across from her home. 

5:53 p.m. A thief stole a vehicle exhaust system from an automobile at Golden Gate Fields. A vehicle was also reported stolen from the lower lot at the racetrack. 

6:12 p.m. A resident on Adams Street said a squirrel fell out of a tree onto the caller's deck and appeared to be severely injured.

7:09 p.m. Someone stole a vehicle from the Albany Arco in the 1000 block of San Pablo Avenue. 

8:11 p.m. A driver found a purse at Buchanan Street and Interstate 580 and dropped it off at the Police Department. 

9:23 p.m. Police arrested Marcus Harris of Berkeley after a man was at the Albany Arco reportedly "harassing customers and being loud." He was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant from another law enforcement agency, and released with a citation to appear in court. 

11:07 p.m. A woman who found what appeared to be her stolen bicycle on Craigslist asked police for advice on how to get it back. 

JUNE 4, MONDAY

9:06 a.m. A parent on Brighton Avenue asked police for help when her son refused to go to school.

9:27 a.m. A thief broke into a vehicle in the Gateview Condominiums parking garage through a broken window. 

12:30 p.m. Someone reported an elderly woman with a small cart picking up recycling on Cornell Avenue. Police gave her a warning. 

2:23 p.m. A thief burglarized a vehicle on Pierce Street. 

3:27 p.m. A woman found a glass alcohol bottle in her yard and told police she believed someone may have trespassed onto her property. 

4:23 p.m. A burglar broke into a home in the 800 block of Talbot Avenue. 

5:15 p.m. A caller reported a woman in her 30s wearing gray and carrying plastic bags going through recycling on Ramona Avenue. 

5:44 p.m. CVS Pharmacy called police about an attempted theft the prior day where property loss had been averted, but the thief left his or her identification at the store. 

7:56 p.m. Police gave a warning to a man in his 50s wearing gloves and taking recycling on San Carlos Avenue.

JUNE 5, TUESDAY

12:15 a.m. Someone reported a man in the bushes yelling at people at the waterfront. 

2:36 a.m. Police arrested Alexander Perez of Albany after security reported a man in his 30s in baseball cap walking around with a backpack behind the building. Perez was arrested on suspicion of loitering and possessing burglary tools; he was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail.

  • On June 4, the Berkeley Police Department reported the arrest of Clinton Jollifee, 22, of Albany on suspicion of driving on a suspended license and possessing a narcotic controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail with a bail of $13,700, according to the Alameda County sheriff's department. He's set for an attorney and plea hearing June 7 at 9 a.m.
