Police Calls: Home Robbery, Cafe Stiffed, Transient Issues, Noisy Flagpole

The Albany police log for May 20-22 includes a residential robbery on Pierce, a package stolen from a doorstep on Sante Fe, a customer who refused to pay at Rendezvous Cafe, and a purse bought with a counterfeit $100.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

Monday, May 20

Truck stolen
– At 8:22 a.m., police received a report of truck stolen over the weekend on Buchanan. Disposition: Follow-up complete.

Diner refuses to pay
– At 1:18 p.m., police received a report of a woman who refused to pay at Rendezvous Cafe on Solano. The was last seen in front of the movie theater. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.

Craigslist car complaint
– At 1:46 p.m., police received a complaint from a person in San Francisco saying the person bought a car from a Craigslist ad in the 500 block of Pierce, and that the Department of Vehicles said the car couldn't be registered or smogged because the odometer had been changed. Disposition: Log note only.

Wallet stolen 
– At 3:23 p.m., police received a report that the wallet of the reporting party's wife was taken some time during the night. Disposition: Request for police canceled.

Transient with small fire at bus stop – At 4:10 p.m., police received a report of transient with a small fire at a bus stop in front of Subway on San Pablo. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.

Wallet taken at Bulb – At 6:13 p.m., police received a report of a wallet taken at the Albany Bulb two hours earlier. Disposition: Case report taken.

Counterfeit bill buys purse – At 6:26 p.m., police received a report of a man who "smelled of alcohol" buying a purse with what turned out to be a counterfeit $100 bill. The man was described as black, in his 30s and wearing a brown suit. Disposition: Case report taken.

Kindergartner beat up at Ocean View School – At 7:21 p.m., police received a report of a kindergarten student being beaten up by first graders at Ocean View Elementary School. The reporting party said it's not the first time, that the victim knows the names of those responsible and that the school has been contacted in the past. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Package stolen from doorstep – At 8:44 p.m., police received a report that a package was stolen from a doorstep on Sante Fe around noon. The reporting party has surveillance video. Disposition: Case report taken.

Tuesday, May 21

Bag stolen at YMCA 
– At At 11:57 a.m., police received a report of a yellow bag stolen at the YMCA on Kains. Disposition: Log note only.

Complaint about transient – At 1:35 p.m., a person requested that a transient male living at Curtis and Solano, who makes sculptures, be arrested for camping on the street. The reporting party would like to be called back. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided. 

Residential robbery – At 8:06 p.m., police received a call, hampered by a language barrier, from a crying female on Pierce stating a "guy came into house, please send help." Police also received a 911 call from her husband, who was not home, calling on behalf of his wife to report the robbery. Disposition: Case report taken.

Wednesday, May 22

Noisy high school flagpole
– At 12:40 a.m., police received a complaint about a flagpole at Albany High School making a lot of noise. Disposition: Situation corrected by APD.

Cell phone lost in park
– At 9:36 a.m., police received a report from a woman that her husband lost his black Blackberry cell phone, possibly a 1900 series, in Memorial Park during the previous evening's music concert. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Non-injury accident
– At 12:16 p.m., police logged a report of a non-injury accident involving a green Toyota Sienna and and Toyota Matrix at Polk and Buchanan. The reporting party said his back hurts a little but declined a medical response. Disposition: Case report taken.

Bus v. truck non-injury accident – At 4:39 p.m., police received a report of a non-injury accident involving a bus and truck with a trailer on San Pablo. Disposition: Assistance given to outside agency.

Suspicious vehicle
– At 10:13 p.m., police received a report of a vehicle heading east on Solano with dark plastic bags covering all the windows except the driver's and the windshield. Disposition: Log note only.

CDs stolen at Target
– At 10:22 p.m., police received a report of two CDs taken by a man and woman, both white, between the ages of 30 and 38, 6-feet 1-inch tall, 250 pounds. The woman had blond hair and a brown purse, and the man was wearing a black hoodie. They were last seen leaving in a white Honda Civic going east on Buchanan. Disposition: Log note only.

Outstanding warrant arrest 
– At At 11:28 p.m., police arrested a male cook from Hercules at San Pablo and Monroe on an outstanding warrant.
