Police Calls: Hug-seeking Woman in Tree Annoys Customers

Albany police logs for Jan. 6-7 include a neighbor arrested in a backyard, a hit-and-run in the staff parking lot at Albany Middle School, a home burglary attempt, cell phone theft at Albany High and men spitting inside Jay-Vee Liquors.

Monday, Jan. 6

Drug paraphernalia, probation arrest – Police arrested a 34-year-old Berkeley man at San Pablo and Dartmouth on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia and violation of probation. (Editor's note: The arrest log does not list the time, but it is apparently the same arrest noted in the incident log of a 2:34 a.m. officer-initiated check of a pedestrian at the same location.)

Unwanted neighbor in backyard arrested – At 8:48 a.m., police received a report of neighbor in the backyard of a resident on Pierce. The resident wants him to leave. Disposition: Arrest made.

Identity theft – At 10:47 a.m., police logged a report of identity theft filed by a person in the police lobby. Disposition: Case report taken.

Hit and run at Middle School – At 11:06 a.m., police logged a report of a hit and run with damage to a vehicle parked in the Albany Middle School staff parking lot. There is no information about who was responsible. Disposition: Case report taken.

Cell phone stolen at Albany High – At 4:37 p.m., police received a report of a cell phone stolen around 2 p.m. at Albany High today. The reporting party is in the police lobby. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Hug-seeking woman in tree annoying customers – At 5:10 p.m., police received a complaint about a woman about 45 years old in a brown baseball cap who was inside Beverages and More and departed and is "now sitting in a tree annoying customers asking for hugs in the parking lot." The reporting party would like her to leave. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

911 call of liquor theft at Lucky's – At 10:56 p.m., police received a 911 call of liquor shoplifted at Lucky's in El Cerrito Plaza. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Tuesday, Jan. 7

Suspended/invalid license arrest – Police arrested a 26-year-old Stockton woman at 931 Pierce on suspicion of driving on a suspended or invalid license.

Residential burglary attempt – At 10:21 a.m., police received a report of an attempted burglary of a residence on Washington through the back sometime yesterday or last night. Disposition: Case report taken.

Heated argument by drivers in fender bender – At 10:41 a.m., a person reported passing by a heated argument between two female drivers involved in a fender bender on Solano. Disposition: Log note only.

Dumped mattress still there – At 11:43 a.m., police received a report that a dumped mattress has been at the same spot on Evelyn for about a month. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Vehicle hit by possibly drunk driver at BevMo – At 11:50 a.m., police received a call from a reporting party whose red Chrysler was hit three minutes ago at Beverages and More by the driver of a white Lincoln Town Car who was in his 60s or 70s and possibly had been drinking. Disposition: Log note only.

Men spitting inside Jay-Vee Liquors – At 4:24 p.m., police received a report that three men inside Jay-Vee Liquors on San Pablo were spitting. They departed to a vehicle. The reporting party was busy with customers. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.
