Police Calls: Illegal Bike Track on Albany Hill, DUI Arrests

The Albany police log for March 20-21 includes an illegal bike track being constructed on Albany Hill, a car keyed in a parking dispute on Solano Avenue, a cut gas line on a car and arrests for DUI, possession, warrants and incapacity.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

Wednesday, March 20

DUI arrest – An Oakland woman was arrested shortly after 2:08 at Buchanan and San Pablco on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Auto burglary – A burglary was reported of an auto parked in a garage on Cornell.

Non-injury accident – A vehicle accident involving a Berkeley waste management truck at Neilson and Solano was reported at 8:55 a.m.

Vehicle hit and run – A vehicle parked at Albany Physical Therapy on San Pablo Avenue was damaged in a hit and run collision about 9:11 a.m. The fleeing vehicle departed on Adams.

Auto burglary – Police received a report of vehicle being gone through the previous evening on Key Route.

Coroner's case – At 11:20 a.m., a neighbor gained entry into a residence on Evelyn "and found MP." [Editor's note: Albany Patch is seeking further information from the police department and the Alameda County coroner's office.]

Car keyed in parking dispute – A caller reported that another man keyed his car after a dispute over parking space at the Albany Post Office on Solano. The suspect was described as a white male in his 60s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a thin build and white hair and wearing glasses.

Non-injury accident – A non-injury vehicle accident was reported at 4:48 p.m. at Dartmouth and San Pablo.

Injured hawk in tree – At 5:42 p.m., a caller reported a bleeding hawk, who appeared able to fly, in a tree in his yard on Madison.

Thursday, March 21

DUI arrest – An El Cerrito woman was arrested at 2:16 a.m. at San Pablo and Carlson on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Suspicious person – A resident on Stannage reported that a male subject keeps coming in her yard and taking her recycling and must be reading the information in the materials because he began calling her by her name. She said she has asked him to stop. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Non-injury accident – A non-injury accident in which a semi flat bed hit a vehicle was reported at 11:51 a.m. at Buchanan and Jackson.

Auto gas line cut – The gas line of a vehicle was cut the previous evening at MacGregor High School on San Gabriel. A knife was found next to the vehicle.

Found keys – At 2 p.m., keys were reported found at the Albany Library at Evelyn and Marin. The keys were left in the police lobby.

Illegal bike track on Albany Hill – An illegal bike track was discovered being constructedon Albany Hill near Pierce and Hill. Signs were posted saying the activity must be stopped immediately to avoid criminal prosecution.

Warrant/possession arrest – Police arrested a Berkeley male at 9:56 p.m. on Solano Avenue following the report of two people sleeping on the sidewalk at Tay Tah Cafe. The suspect was arrested on an outstanding warrant and on suspicion of illegal possession of drugs or paraphenalia.

DUI arrest – Shortly after 10:40 p.m., a male lifeguard from Berkeley was arrested at Solano and Jackson on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Arrest for incapacity – A male transient was arrested at 10:56 p.m. in the 800 block of Buchanan for on suspicion of being intoxicated or under the influence of drugs so that he was unable to care for himself or posed a risk to others.
