Police Calls: Kick-in Burglary, Golf Clubs Taken, Pot Smokers Shouting

The Albany police logs for Nov. 11-12 include a residential burglary in which the front door was kicked in, a Hertz vehicle that wasn't returned, golf clubs taken from a driveway, a laptop stolen from a business and noisy marijuana smokers.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Monday, Nov. 11

Auto burglary – At 12:15 a.m., police received a report of a cold auto burglary of a vehicle in a parking lot on San Pablo. Disposition: Case report taken.

Golf clubs taken from driveway – At 10:08 a.m., police received a report of a set of golf clubs left placed on a driveway on Cornell while packing for a golfing trip. The reporting and family went back inside, and when they came out, the clubs were gone. The wife saw a salvage truck with wood paneling going southbound. Disposition: Case report taken.

Hertz vehicle not returned – At 11:27 a.m., police logged a vehicle theft report involving a vehicle not returned to Hertz on San Pablo. Disposition: Case report taken.

Two teens tried to open door on San Lorenzo – At 1:20 p.m., police logged a report of two male teens about 18 years old who stated they were students and who tried to open a locked door of a residence on San Lorenzo in Berkeley. The log entry also says it involved "officer initiated activity" and "Get more infor from BPD." Disposition: Log note only.

Kick-in residential burglary – At 4:50 p.m. police received a report of cold residential burglary in which the front door was kicked in on Pierce. Disposition: Case report taken.

Drug, outstanding warrant arrests – At 9:27 p.m., police arrested two Sacramento women in the 700 block of Taft, a 40-year-old on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance and 34-year-old on an outstanding warrant. 

Neighbor passed out in front of residence – At 10:31 p.m., police received a 911 call that the reporting party's neighbor was passed out in front of her residence on Elm Street in El Cerrito. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Laptop stolen from business – At 10:51 p.m., police received a report of a laptop stolen from a business on San Pablo around 5 p.m. today. The responsible person was captured on video. Disposition: Case report taken.

Tuesday, Nov. 12

Driver tries to run over female on moped – At 9:48 a.m., a person in the police lobby reported that she was riding her moped in front of the Police Department and a driver tried to run her over. She says she's bleeding and declines a medical response. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Commercial burglary – At 10:13 a.m., police received a burglary report that a person just arrived and found the back door of his business on Solano broken. Disposition: Case report taken.

Dad upset over impounded auto caused by son's DUI – At 11:35 a.m., a man in the police lobby reported that his vehicle was impounded because of his son's DUI and now would like to press charges against him. He is also very upset about the cost of getting the vehicle out. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Dispute between mail carrier and citizen – At 11:48 a.m., police logged a disturbance-of-the-peace report involving a mail carrier and a citizen at Buchanan and Jackson. Disposition: Disputing parties separated – matter resolved.

Identity theft – At 12:11 p.m., police received a report of identity theft from a person in the police lobby. Disposition: Case report taken.

Shortchanged on auto damage payment – At 4:34 p.m., a person told police he was involved in a traffic accident on Nov. 3 in which another vehicle hit his vehicle from behind. The other driver told him she would take care of the accident and told him to go to a body shop "in BY." After he went, she said she would give him only $500. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Cryptic "Suspicious Circumstance" – A 5:26 p.m. log entry says, "Suspicious Circumstance / Occurred on Pierce, Albany. Cold occurred on Friday morning after former board member was let go. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency."

Another dispute between mail carrier and citizen – At 6:07 p.m., police logged a disturbance-of-the-peace report involving a verbal altercation in which a mail carrier delivered another person's mail to the reporting party, and when the reporting party told him about it, the mail carrier grabbed all the mail, including the reporting party's mail, out of her hand. Disposition: No police action warranted at this time.

Shouting pot smokers – At 10:18 p.m., police received a disturbance-of-the-peace report of subjects in a garage area on Kains shouting and smoking marijuana. Disposition: Log note only.
