Police Calls: Laptop Stolen, Harassment by Pickup with Antlers

The Albany police logs for Oct. 16-17 include a hit-and-run with damage, a laptop taken from an unlocked vehicle, check fraud, a DUI arrest apparently connected to an accident, a driver texting and a seriously injured kitten at Albany Bulb.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Wednesday, Oct. 16

Vehicle tamperiing – At 9:12 a.m., police received a report of an unlocked vehicle that was tampered with last night on Garfield. Nothing was taken. A GPS was left behind. Disposition: Case report taken.

Non-injury accident – At 10:10 a.m., police received a report of a non-injury accident involving a white Ford at Happy Donut on San Pablo. Disposition: Log note only.

Check fraud – At 3:05 p.m., a person in the police lobby reported that a fraudulent check for $95 had been written from the person's account. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Dog in possible distress – At 4:13 p.m., police received a report of a dog in an SUV at the Albany Pool for half an hour possibly in distress, with the window cracked. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Hit and run with damage – At 4:53 p.m., police received a report of a hit and run with damage at Buchanan and Pierce five minutes ago. The person responsible was a male in his 40s with sunglasses and a black shirt, driving a white or silver Honda Accord with front-end damage, last seen going north on Pierce. turning westbound at first stop sign. Disposition: Case report taken.

Harassment from pickup with antlers – At 6:06 p.m., police received a report of two males in a green Dodge pickup with plywood and ladders in the bed and antlers strapped to the front yelling and slowing down to follow and cut off the reporting party at Masonic and Dartmouth. The truck was last seen going north to eastbound Marin. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

DUI arrest 
– Police arrested a 28-year-old San Pablo man at Buchanan and Eastshore Highway on suspicion of driving under the influence and having a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more. (Editor's note: no time is listed in the arrest log, but it may be related to two linked reports on the incident log of a traffic accident – one at 6:47 p.m. and the other at 8:15 p.m. – at the Buchanan Interchange. The second report says an arrest was made. The DUI arrest of the San Pablo man is the only arrest on the arrest log for Oct. 16.)

Thursday, Oct. 17

Driver texting – At 6:03 p.m., police received a report of a woman in her 20s texting on a white cell phone and not paying attention while driving east on Gilman and turning north on San Pablo five minutes ago. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Dazed man crossing street back and forth – At 6:07 p.m., police received a report of an unkempt dazed heavyset man in a black coat walking back and forth across the street at Colusa and Sante Fe at 5:30 p.m., last seen heading north on Colusa. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Injured feral kitten at Albany Bulb – At 6:10 p.m., police received a report of a feral white and brown kitten that had been injured or attacked and can't move but is still alive. It's on the southeast corner of the plateau. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Laptop taken from unlocked vehicle – At 8:40 p.m., police logged a report of a laptop and bag taken from an unlocked vehicle at San Pablo and Washington. Disposition: Case report taken.
