Police Calls: Laptop Theft, Fight at the Track, Skeleton on the Bridge, Santa Leaves Diapers?

DEC. 14

8:57 a.m. Someone reported a theft from a vehicle on Pomona Avenue.

10:23 a.m. Police "admonished" someone found leaving food scraps for birds at the Albany waterfront.

11:42 a.m. Someone reported that a vehicle had crashed into a home on Cornell Avenue four hours earlier, and that part of the vehicle was in the lot behind the post office.

12:50 p.m. Police gave a warning to a man in khaki-colored clothing who urinated on the side of a trailer on Masonic Avenue.

12:59 p.m. Someone reported that  over the past five or six weeks.

1:18 p.m. A purse was reported stolen while at in the morning.

4:53 p.m. Someone stole a child's bike from a rack at .

8:07 p.m. Something was stolen from the parking lot of the .

DEC. 15

12:18 a.m. Police arrested Tobie Ann Charles, 37, of Albany at Solano and Cornell avenues on suspicion of forgery and trying to use a counterfeit check. She was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility in downtown Oakland.

2:48 a.m. Police arrested Ae Chew Saechao of Oakland, at the westbound on-ramp to Interstate 80 at Buchanan Street, on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance and some kind of counterfeit currency. She was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer jail.

2:57 a.m. Police received a call from the San Francisco Police Department about someone concerned about a friend in Albany who was threatening, via a message on Facebook, to overdose.

9:05 a.m. A bicycle was stolen overnight from a back yard in the 1300 block of Marin Avenue.

10:57 a.m. A woman called to share her concern about "numerous vehicle accidents" at Marin and Santa Fe avenues due to speeding drivers. She said she would "like to bring the intersection to the City's attention."

11:28 a.m. A vehicle cited on Cornell for being parked in a street-cleaning zone was found to be stolen.

12:55 p.m. Police were called to speak with an Albany High student in the principal's office who had been accused of theft. 

4:23 p.m. A employee found a lost pitbull/beagle puppy in Memorial Park.

4:52 p.m. Someone burglarized a home, and ransacked a bedroom, in the 1200 block of Brighton Avenue. 

6:45 p.m. A woman was bitten by a dog on Stannage Avenue; she said she didn't need medical help but was concerned the dog might have rabies.

7:33 p.m. Someone stole a wallet at . 

DEC. 16

1:32 a.m. Police arrested Daniel Coman Clark, 31, of Richmond on suspicion of driving under the influence at San Pablo and Brighton avenues. He was cited and released. 

9:22 a.m. A student's laptop was stolen from an unattended backpack at . 

10:14 a.m. Someone broke into a vehicle in the 1100 block of Curtis Street overnight.

12:09 p.m. A woman in the 1000 block of Peralta Avenue came home after being gone since 7 a.m. to find her door broken down.

12:30 p.m. Police reported what appeared to be a second burglary on Peralta.

3:49 p.m. Someone left a box of diapers on a porch on Marin. The discarded box had no address label or return address. (Log note only.)

4:06 p.m. A security guard at reported a physical fight without weapons. The victim did not need medical attention. According to the police log, the suspect was gone, but the log also indicated an arrest was made. 

5:09 p.m. Someone reported being punched in the face by a security guard in the stable area of Golden Gate Fields; the caller was referred to the Berkeley Police Department.

7:17 p.m. Someone called police to say that a gold coin he or she had hidden in a jacket pocket was missing after having workers in the home, on Evelyn Avenue, earlier in the day. (Disposition: Situation checks out OK.)

DEC. 17

4:09 a.m. Police arrested Erika Fukumoto Peterson of Albany on suspicion of driving under the influence and possessing narcotics without a prescription. She was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail.

7:57 a.m. A black 1993 Honda Civic towed from  was found to have been stolen out of Richmond.

11:58 a.m. A woman came into the police department to speak to an officer looking for advice about how to investigate her husband for cheating. Police referred her to an outside agency.

1:27 p.m. Police responded to for a report of a child on a bike who appeared to have been hit by a 2004 Toyota Camry. The accident was reported to have resulted in injuries, but no further information was available from the police log. (Albany Patch has requested additional information from the police department.)

3:06 p.m. Someone called police to find the phone number for the airport "because her mother is coming in today." 

4:38 p.m. A man saying someone had stolen a hand truck from his vehicle told police he'd located one that appeared to be his in the encampments at the Albany Bulb.

9:54 p.m. A vehicle was stolen from the 700 block of Stannage.

DEC. 18

12:59 a.m. A man walked into the Ivy Room saying he didn't know his name or where he lived. 

2:07 a.m. Police arrested John Milton Kreis of Oakland on suspicion of driving under the influence at Camelia Street and San Pablo Avenue in Berkeley. He was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail.

11:28 a.m. A cat sitter for a home in the 800 block of Evelyn found the home's "back door window" on the upper floor open and the kitchen light on, though the owner was out of town.

2:48 p.m. A woman on Posen Avenue called saying she might have seen a skeleton on the San Rafael Bridge. Police referred her to another agency.

11:49 p.m. After hearing what sounded like a tire deflating, and seeing her neighbor's tire flat, a woman on Talbot called to report a man with short, dark hair and dark clothing walking east toward the BART path. Police arrested Jesse Huston White, 33, of Berkeley on suspicion of public intoxication and carrying a concealed weapon.

IN OTHER NEWS...

  • The Alameda Police Department arrested Bruce Vanderpool, 53, of Albany on Dec. 12 on suspicion of burglary, possession of burglary tools, trespassing and willful disobedience. According to the Alameda County Sheriff's Department, Vanderpool was in custody as of Thursday, with his next hearing set for Jan. 12.
  • The San Leandro Police Department arrested Raine Wooten, 26, of Albany on Dec. 19 on suspicion of trying to use a forged prescription in the 15500 block of Washington Avenue in San Leandro.
