Police Calls: Lots of Thefts, Men Yelling, Dogs Barking, Naked Man

The Albany police logs for Sept. 13-15 include a stolen car, a stolen bicycle, a Target shoplifting arrest, a cottage burglary, three auto burglaries, plants stolen from a home, an Albany High student jumped, a naked man and more dogs barking.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Friday, Sept. 13

Identity theft – At 1:04 p.m., a caller reported that an unknown person has opened several credit card accounts in her name. Disposition: Case report taken.

Hit and run with damage – At 2:10 p.m., a person in the police lobby reported that when he returned to his car at Cornell and Solano, he found a note from a witness saying someone had hit his car. Disposition: Message left.

Male on bike yelling and screaming – At 2:46 p.m., police logged two reports of a male with a large mustache on bicycle yelling and screaming on Portland. Disposition: Log note only.

Many plants stolen from front of home – At 3:11 p.m., a resident reported that about 20 plants have been stolen from his front yard and porch on Tulare within the past three weeks. He requests extra patrol during the late night and early morning when/if possible. He is thinking of installing a security camera in the very near future. Disposition: Log note only.

Burglary arrest at Target – Police arrested a 32-year-old Berkeley woman on suspicion of burglary at Target. The arrest followed a 3:36 p.m. report of a woman in custody at Target for shoplifting.

Arrest on drunk/disorderly conduct, resisting an officer – Police arrested a 46-year-old transient at 1001 San Pablo on suspicion of resisting an officer and being under the influence to an unsafe degree or obstructing a public right of way. The arrest followed a 4:34 p.m. report of an intoxicated subject bothering patrons at the Am/Pm Arco.

Naked man – At 5:02 p.m., police received a call of man with dark hair standing naked behind a storage building on Albina. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint. 

Injury accident – At 6:39 p.m., police received a report of an injury accident involving a Kia and a black BMW at Washington and Ramona. Disposition: Case report taken. Non-injury accident – At 7:45 p.m., police received a report of a minor, non-injury accident involving a black vehicle and a gray vehicle at Sante Fe and Marin. Disposition: Log note only.

Cat hit by car – At 8:59 p.m., police received a report of a cat in the street on Key Route. The cat was hit by a car and is near the median. The reporting party thinks it is deceased. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Recovered stolen vehicle – At 10:00 p.m., police logged a report of a stolen vehicle located parked in the red zone at Buchanan and Fillmore. Disposition: Vehicle towed.

Accident, man yelling – At 10:44 p.m., police received a report of a vehicle accident at San Pablo and Castro and a man in the street yelling at someone in a light-colored pickup or SUV. Disposition: Matter or reported situation checks out O.K.

Saturday, Sept. 14

Barking dogs beginning at 6 a.m. – At 6:28 a.m., police received a complaint from a person reporting an ongoing problem of neighbor at Marin and Kains who puts dogs out in the backyard at 6 a.m. The dogs bark at anything or anyone who passes by. The yard where the dogs are kept is directly under the reporting party's window. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Stolen vehicle – At 7:39 a.m., police received a report of vehicle stolen on Brighton. The vehicle was parked on the street and last seen about 9 p.m. Disposition: Case report taken.

Bicycle stolen – At 11:06 a.m., police received a report of silver men's Schwinn bike, valued at $160, stolen between 8 p.m. and 10 a.m. from the open garage of an apartment complex on Evelyn. Disposition: Case report taken.

Auto burglary – At 11:19 a.m., police received a report of a cold auto burglary via a smashed window on Masonic. The loss was unknown. Disposition: Case report taken.

Auto burglary – At 1:39 p.m., police received a report of an auto burglary that occurred overnight on Kains. Disposition: Case report taken.

Loud music at Memorial Park – At 9:51 p.m., police received a report of loud music at Memorial Park. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.

Drug paraphernalia, violating probation arrest – Police arrested a 32-year-old Oakland man in the 1100 block of Solano on suspicion of illegal possession of drug paraphernalia and violating probation. (The time of the arrest is not listed but is apparently the same one referred to a 10:17 p.m. report of an officer-initiated check of a pedestrian on Solano that resulted in an arrest.)

Drunk/disorderly arrest – Police arrested at 31-year-old Winters woman at 915 Kains on suspicion of being under the influence to an unsafe degree or obstructing a public right of way. (The time of the arrest is not listed but is apparently the same one referred to a 11:54 p.m. report of an officer-initiated
arrest on Kains of a person who had been drinking.)

Sunday, Sept. 15

Dogs barking from early a.m. – At 6:40 a.m., police received a complaint (apparently from the same person who called about the same time Saturday morning) about a neighbor at Marin and Kains who lets dogs out at the same time every morning. The dogs bark and wake up the reporting party. The reporting party already yelled this morning at the dog owner, and the dogs are now inside and no longer barking. The reporting party wants to know how she should proceed in dealing with the issue. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Albany High student jumped – At 7:22 a.m., police logged a report that the son of the reporting party was jumped by school mates at Albany High after lunch Friday when he was returning to school. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Residential burglary – At 2:23 p.m., police received a report that a rear cottage on San Carlos was burglarized sometime yesterday and that money was taken. Disposition: Case report taken.

iPhone lost at Happy Donut – At 4:46 p.m., a person reported losing a black iPhone 5 in a purple protective case about 6:50 a.m. today at Happy Donut. The reporting party wanted the loss documented in case the phone is turned in. Disposition: Log note only.

Auto burglary – At 5:03 p.m., police received a report of a stereo taken in a cold auto burglary at Golden Gate Fields. Disposition: Case report taken.

Male passed out or sleeping near Safeway – At 9:45 p.m., police received a report of a male in a white shirt passed out or sleeping by the driveway behind Safeway on Neilson. Disposition: Log note only.
