Police Calls: Man Waving Sword/Knife at Albany Bulb, Front Porch Theft

The Albany police logs for Nov. 16-17 include a caped man waving a sword or long knife at Albany Bulb, extremely dirty restrooms at Memorial Park, boots stolen from a front porch, grand theft on Kains and a continuously howling/barking dog.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Saturday, Nov. 16

Man waving sword or knife on Albany Bulb – At 8:49 a.m., police received a report of a man in his 40s with a long beard wearing a cape and waving around a sword or long knife near the statue of the big lady on the Albany Bulb. Disposition: Log note only.

Key lockbox stolen – At 10:45 a.m., police received a report that a key lockbox was stolen sometime during the late night or early morning hours of of Nov. 14 from a basement door. The reporting party wished to have a record of the incident "for patrol information." Disposition: Log note only.

Continuously barking/howling dog – At 1:11 p.m., police received a report of a dog that continuously barks and howls at a residence in the 1100 block of Talbot. The reporting party says the dog's owner doesn't live there, just leaves the dog there and returns occasionally to feed and walk the dog. Disposition: Log note only.

Sunday, Nov. 17

DUI arrest – At 12:31 a.m., police arrested a 67-year-old Berkeley man at San Pablo and Washington on suspicion of driving under the influence and having a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more. 

Non-injury accident – At 12:30 p.m., police received a report of a non-injury accident involving a gray Prius on San Carlos. The log entry also notes "two screw marks in rear bumper." Disposition: Log note only.

Bike stolen at Albany Bulb – At 12:35 p.m., police received a report of blue, 21-speed Marin Portofino bicycle, valued at approximately $800, stolen at Albany Bulb between 2-2:30 a.m. on Nov. 16. The owner does not desire prosecution. Disposition: Log note only.

Boots taken from front porch – At 12:43 a.m., police received a report of brown canvas boots taken from a front porch on Pomona. The suspect was described as a thin black male in his 30s with a blue backpack and wearing a gray knit cap and beige jacket. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Extremely dirty restrooms at Memorial Park – At 2:32 p.m., police received a complaint of extremely dirty restrooms with "poo and blood" at Memorial Park. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Grand theft arrest – At 4:11 p.m., police arrested a 41-year-old Oakland man at 1048 Kains on suspicion of committing grand theft. The arrest followed a 3:46 p.m. incident log entry about a call reporting a theft on Kains in which a disturbance of the peace can be heard in the background. 

4 people removing security tags at Target – At 5:37 p.m., police received a report that four people are inside Target removing security tags. Disposition: Situation corrected by APD.

Female crying – At 9:41 p.m., police received a report of female in dark cloth, possibly a transient, crying near the driveway of Albany High at Thousand Oaks and Pomona. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.
