Police Calls: Many Thefts, Home Ransacked, 3 Hit-&-Run Cases

The Albany police logs for Nov. 20-21 include a home ransacked in a burglary, a vehicle swerving at a bicyclist, a $1,100 Apple store purchase from ID theft, thefts at CVS and a dry cleaners, and a stolen vehicle and a stolen bicycle.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Wednesday, Nov. 20

Found bike – At 9:37 a.m., police received a report of bicycle left in fron of Copy Express on Solano since Friday. Disposition: Case report taken.

Wallet found – At 9:57 a.m., a person brought the police station a wallet found at Solano and Masonic. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

ID theft, $1,100 Apple store purchase – At 10:22 a.m., a person reported that her credit card had been charged $1,100 for a purchase at the Apple store that she didn't make. Disposition: Case report taken.

Theft at dry cleaners – At 12:23 p.m., police received a report of items stolen at a dry cleaners at Solano and Masonic. Disposition: Case report taken.

Driver swerves at bicyclist – At 12:47 p.m., a bicyclist reported a verbal alteration with a driver five minutes earlier over telling the driver to stop looking at her phone and swerving at the bicyclist while she was riding her bike. The bicyldoesn't want contact from police, just a record of the incident and an area check. Disposition: No police action warranted at this time.

Pizza truck blocks street – At 1:58 p.m., police received a report of pizza delivery truck blocking the road at Stannage and Solano and causing drivers to honk their horns. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Hit and run with damage – At 2:13 p.m., police logged a report of a hit and run with damage that caused damage to driver's side door last night on Calhoun. Disposition: Log note only.

Non-injury accident – At 2:41 p.m., police received a report of a non-injury accident caused minor scratches to a white AT&T truck and a damaged left fender and bumper to a white Toyota Corolla at San Pablo and Harrison. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

House ransacked in burglary – At 3:09 p.m., police received a report that the reporting party's 17-year-old daughter found the garage door open and the house ransacked on Ventura. The reporting party told her to leave and go to the library. Disposition: Case report taken.

Hit and run with damage – At 3:39 p.m., a driver reported being sideswiped three minutes ago at a traffic signal at Brighton and San Pablo by torquoise green mustang occupied by two males who went northbound. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

CDs and loose change taken from vehicle – At 8:12 p.m., police received a report that some CDs and loose change were stolen in the last few days when the glove box of a vehicle on Beverly was rifled through. Disposition: Log note only.

CVS shoplifting – At 9:08 p.m., police received a report of a man about 28-33 years old concealing items in his pocket at CVS Pharmacy on Solano and departing in an unknown direction in an unknown vehicle. Some of the items were recovered. Disposition: Case report taken.

Thursday, Nov. 21

DUI arrest – At 12:05 a.m., police arrested a 37-year-old Oakland man at 1500 Solano Ave. on suspicion of driving under the influence and having a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more.

Hit and run with damage – At 12:44 a.m., police logged a report of a cold hit and run with damage to a vehicle parked on the street on Adams. Disposition: Case report taken.

Vehicle in 90-minute zone for two days – At 10:32 a.m., police received a report of a vehicle parked for two days in a 90-minute zone at Albany Tire Service on San Pablo. Disposition: Log note only.

Stolen vehicle – At 1:38 p.m., police received a report of vehicle taken on Ventura the previous night after 10:30 p.m. The reporting party says the keys are accounted for and that no one should be in possession of the vehicle. Disposition: Case report taken.

Stolen bike – At 2:44 p.m., police received a report of a yellow Giant hybrid bicycle taken between 8-8:50 p.m. on Nov. 13 at the YMCA on Solano. The bike, valued at $250, has a seat with flames on it and a sticker on the rear of the frame saying it's for transportation only, not recreation. Disposition: Log note only.

Fire in bathroom – At 2:46 p.m., police received a 911 call of a bathroom fire on Solano. Disposition: Assistance given to outside agency.

Non-injury accident – At 3:51 p.m., police received a report of a non-injury accident at Portland and Curtis. The reporting party heard the collision and can see people standing by unknown vehicles. Disposition: Log note only.

Tree hit balcony – At 10:48 p.m., police received a report that a tree fell and hit a balcony at Tala Apartments on Taft. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint. (Editor's note: This was the night high winds knocked down many trees and power lines in the East Bay.)

DUI arrest – At 11:45 p.m., police logged an arrest for driving under the influence at Solano and Sante Fe. (Editor's note: This arrest does not appear on the arrest log, unless it is the DUI arrest listed on the arrest log at 1500 Sante Fe listed as happening at 12:05 a.m. on the same date. See first incident for Thursday, Nov. 21, above.)
