Police Calls: Pot at Middle School, Gold Center Broken Into, Job Seeker Steals Tips

The Albany police log for June 12-13 includes a considerable amount of marijuana at Albany Middle School, a burglary at the Gold Center, an iPhone taken at the Middle School, lewd conduct at Masonic and Dartmouth and return of a hazardous pothole.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

Wednesday, June 12

Recovered stolen vehicle – At 9:16 a.m., police logged a recovered stolen vehicle after receiving a report of an auto parked on Evelyn for the past two weeks. Disposition: Case report taken.

Non-injury accident – At 9:40 a.m., police received a report of a Hercules Tires truck hit by a Honda at Buchanan and San Pablo. Disposition: Log note only.

Gold Center burglary – At 10:12 a.m., police received a report from the Gold Center on San Pablo that the business had been broken into at an unknown time. Disposition: Case report taken.

Injured cat stuck in storm drain – At 10:20 a.m., police received a report from a motorist that an injured cat has its paw stuck in a storm drain near I-580 and Central. The caller would like police assistance. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Transient complaint – At 10:23 a.m., police logged a complaint about a transient man walking in Memorial Park with a backpack and sunglasses drinking something out of a paper bag at a time when children from Cornell School are in the park. There were numerous other calls about the man. Disposition: Case report taken.

Dog vs. dog – At 12:25 p.m., police received a report of a dog vs. dog incident at 8:30 p.m. on June 7 at Dartmouth and Masonic. The reporting party already contacted Berkeley Animal Control, who referred the incident back to Albany police. Disposition: Case report taken.

Non-injury accident – At 12:28 p.m., police received a report of a non-injury accident involving a gray Volkswagon Passant and blue Toyota Tacoma on Key Route. Disposition: Case report taken.

Armed robbery – At 3:51 p.m., police logged a robbery involving a silver gun and wallet being taken on Jackson by suspects wearing jeans, a turquoise sweater with a hoodie and a polo shirt. Disposition: Case report taken. [Editor's note: Albany police later informed Patch that this robbery was committed by two men with a gun who confronted a man as he was getting out of his vehicle with his son in their carport. We published an article on June 18 with information about this crime and two other robberies the same week in Albany.]
 
iPhone taken at Middle School – At 4:17 p.m., police received a report of a white iPhone 4 being taken from a classroom at Albany Middle School. The phone was recovered, but the SIM card is missing. The reporting party has suspect information. Disposition: Log note only.

Dangerous pothole returns – At 4:58 p.m., police received a report that a pothole is forming again at the southeast corner of San Pablo and Solano in front of Montero's. It's the same pothole that the reporting previously called about when her friend ran over it on his bike and ended in the emergency room. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Tips stolen by job applicant – At 4:59 p.m., police received a report of man in his late 20s about 45 minutes ago applying for a job on San Pablo and then stealing tips out of the jar. Disposition: Case report taken.

BevMo glass case broken in theft attempt – At 5:47 p.m., police received a report of a glass case being broken at Beverages and More on San Pablo in a theft attempt. Three males of unknown description left the store at 4:54 p.m. The store has video footage. Disposition: Case report taken.

Non-injury accident – At 7:10 p.m., police received a report of a silver CRV hitting at blue Toyota on Kains. The responsible driver is still on the scene. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Thursday, June 13

Obscene exhibition – At 9:31 a.m., police received a report of man about 10 minutes earlier exposing his penis at Masonic and Dartmouth to the reporting party as she passed. The man was described as black in his 60s, tall and thin with a beard, and wearing a brown shirt and black shorts. The reporting party requests telephone contact. Disposition: Case report taken.

Sinkhole repair – At 9:50 a.m., police logged a report that Public Works would be repairing a sinkhole at Solano and San Pablo today. The left-turn lane onto Solano eastbound and southbound on San Pablo Avenue will be closed. Also, no right turns will be posted. Buses will be accommodated. Disposition: Log note only.

Marijuana at Middle School – At 10:03 a.m., police were alerted that a subject who was found with a considerable amount of marijuana was in the Albany Middle School office with the assistant principal. No weapons were found and the subject was not aggressive. Disposition: Case report taken.

Nook stolen at Target – At 12:10 p.m., police received a report of a Nook taken from a display at Target on June 11. Disposition: Case report taken.

Non-injury accident – At 2:27 p.m., police received a report of non-injury accident involving a blue Toyota Sienna at San Pablo and Marin. Disposition: Log note only.

Hit and run at Target – At 3:23 p.m., police received a report of a hit and run causing damage 30 minutes earlier at Target. There was no description of the other vehicle involved. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Auto burglary – At 4:38 p.m., police received a report of a burglary at Taco Bell on San Pablo where a window was broken on a PT Cruiser and something was taken from the vehicle. Two suspects left in a vehicle with paper plates and were last seen on Buchanan going toward the freeway. Disposition: Case report taken.

Computer, wallet stolen from auto – At 10:22 p.m., police received a report of a computer and a wallet taken from an unlocked vehicle on Masonic. Disposition: Case report taken.

Loud music at Club Mallard – At 11:57 p.m., police received a complaint of louder than usual music at Club Mallard on San Pablo. Disposition: Matter or reported situation checks out O.K. 

More loud music at Club Mallard – At 12:28 a.m. (June 13), police received a complaint from the same person who called half an hour earlier saying the music at Club Mallard is still loud, so loud that she can hear it inside her apartment with the windows closed. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.
