Police Calls: Purse, Money, Liquor Stolen; Loud Music; Defiant Litterbug

The Albany police logs for July 27-28 include money taken from a purse at the Albany Library, a purse taken during a class at the YMCA, liquor taken at Safeway by bicyclists, rose bushes vandalized, a hit and run, and a determined litterbug.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Saturday, July 27

Loud music at Mallard
– At 12:53 a.m., police received a complaint about loud music from Club Mallard on San Pablo. The reporting party said it can be heard inside her apartment across the street. Disposition: Responsible/s advised of complaint, will correct situation.

Loud music at Hertz
– At 8:33 a.m., police received a complaint about an ongoing problem of Hertz employees playing loud music from vehicles in the Hertz lot when they are cleaning the cars. Disposition: Situation corrected by APD.

Theft of tires
– At 10:20 a.m., police logged a report of theft of tires on Buchanan. Disposition: Log note only.

Found cell phone
– At 11:04 a.m., a person in the police lobby reported finding a cell phone in the street. Disposition: Log note only.

Vehicle burglary
 At 11:27 a.m., police received a report of a burglary of a vehicle parked on the street on Pierce. Disposition: Case report taken.

Purse stolen at YMCA
– At 11:46 a.m., police received a report of a purse stolen during a class at the YMCA on Kains. Disposition: Case report taken.

Money stolen at library
– At 2:55 p.m., a person reported that money was stolen from from the reporting party's purse inside the Albany Library. The purse owner did not see who did it. Disposition: Log note only.

Injury accident
– At 2:58 p.m., police received a report of an injury accident at San Pablo and Solano. Disposition: Case report taken.

Vehicle burglary
– At 5:30 p.m., police logged a report of a burglary in the overflow lot of Golden Gate Fields on Eastshore. Disposition: Case report taken.

Repeat litterbug
– At 6:57 p.m., police received a complaint that 10 minutes earlier, man threw a napkin out his vehicle window. When confronted by the reporting party, the man picked it up, drove off and then threw it back out the window. The reporting party would like contact. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Hit and run
– At 8:33 p.m., police received a report of a hit and run on Stannage between 6:45-7:45 p.m. with damage to the front left side. Disposition: Case report taken.

DUI arrest – At 11:12 p.m., police arrested an Oakland male on westbound Interstate 80 at Gilman on suspicion of driving under the influence and having a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more.

Bicyclist arrested – At 11:37 p.m., police logged a report of an officer stopping a bicyclist at Jackson and Washington. Disposition: Arrest made.

Drug, probation arrest – At 11:48 p.m., police arrested a male laborer from Richmond in the 5900 block of Columbia on suspicion of illegal possession of a controlled substance and violating probation.

Sunday, July 28

Juvenile problem – At 12:08 a.m., police logged a report of six male teenagers who possibly had been drinking leaving a party that apparently had broken up and one of them urinating on the reporting party's porch. Disposition: Responsible/s advised of complaint, will correct situation.

DUI arrest – At 12:45 a.m., police arrested a Richmond male at Central and Pierce on suspicion of driving under the influence and having a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more.

Rose bushes damaged – At 1:08 p.m., police received a report of rose bushes vandalized sometime last night or early this morning on Carmel. Disposition: Log note only.

Samsung cell phone found – At 1:40 p.m., police received a report of a Samsung SCH R270 cell phone found in bushes on Neilson in Berkeley, with the battery found in the street. Disposition: Case report taken.

Non-injury accident – At 4:16 p.m., police received a report of non-injury accident involving two vehicles, one of which was parked, at Garfield and San Pablo. Disposition: Case report taken.

Furniture dumped – At 4:59 p.m., police received a report of two males in a large tan pickup with writing on the side dumping furniture at Thousand Oaks and Carmel. They were last scene parked on Thousands Oaks near the dog park. Disposition: Log note only.

Identify theft – At 5:22 p.m., police received a report that a credit card was used to take about $234 on July 3. Disposition: Case report taken.

Liquor lifted at Safeway – At 9:32 p.m., police received a report that two males about 20 years old took liquor from Safeway and left on bicycles. Both were described as white with dirty faces. One wore dark clothing and a black hat and rode a black bike last seen going east on Solano. The other wore dark clothing with a beanie and rode a teal bike last seen going north on Curtis. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

DUI arrest – At 11:49 p.m., police logged a report of a male sales representative from El Cerrito arrested in the 700 block of San Pablo on suspicion of driving under the influence.
