Police Calls: Scantily Clad Beggar, Shoe Thief, Dog Barking Complaints

The Albany police log for Aug. 30 includes a man bathing naked in the creek nexet to Albany Hill and then bumming cigarets in a jockstrap, two complaints about barking dogs, a shoe theft at Target and a mysteriously started dishwasher.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Friday, Aug. 30

Man taking recycling
 – At 4:58 a.m., police received a report of man going south on Carmel taking recycling and making lots of noise. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Controlled substance, drug paraphernalia arrest – At 11:33 a.m., police arrested a 28-year-old El Cerrito man at 625 Stannage Ave. on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine or other controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. The arrest followed a 11:24 a.m. "Suspicious Person" and "Arrest Made" report of a stranger sitting on the front property of residence on Stannage.

Dishwasher started while resident away – At 2:42 p.m., a resident on Stannage reported that she had gone out for lunch and found her dishwasher running when she returned. She would like a security check of her residence. Disposition: Matter or reported situation checks out O.K.

Non-injury accident – At 3:27 p.m., police received a report of a minor, non-injury collision of a blue truck and a gray Ford with a vehicle in the roadway at San Pablo and Portland. Disposition: Log note only.

Barking dog – At 4:41 p.m., police received a complaint of a dog in a yard on Key Route barking for an hour. It's an ongoing issue. Disposition: Responsible/s advised of complaint, will correct situation.

Beggar in jockstrap at Albany Hill – At 7:19 p.m., police received a report of man bathing naked in the creek at Albany Hill and then walking around in a jockstrap asking for cigarets. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Barking dog – At 8:38 p.m., police received an anonymous complaint of a dog barking since 6 a.m. on Spokane. Disposition: Responsible/s advised of complaint, will correct situation.

Drunk/disorderly, probation arrest – At 9:01 p.m., police arrested a 60-year-old male transient at 800 Buchanan on suspicion of violating probation and being under the influence to an unsafe degree or obstructing a public right of way.

Football game keeping kids up – At 9:04 p.m., police received a complaint of a football game at Albany Middle School keeping kids up. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency. (Editor's note: Albany High School had a football game that night on Cougar Field, which is behind Albany Middle School and located across the city border in El Cerrito.) 

Shoe theft at Target – At 9:28 p.m., police received a theft report of man taking his shoes off and putting on new shoes upstairs at Target. The reporting party has footage. The suspect is described at a black male, 40-45 years old, 5-feet, 7-inches tall, weighing 175 pounds and wearing a white t-shirt, dark jeans and green Champion shoes. Disposition: Case report taken.

Driving without valid license arrest – At 11:33 p.m., police arrested a 27-year-old Berkeley woman at San Pablo and Camelia on suspicion of driving on a suspended or invalid license and of being a restricted driver without an ignition interlock device.
