Police Calls: Sewer Rat in Toilet, Arson At Middle School, Meat Scraps at Waterfront and More

JUNE 23, SATURDAY

10 a.m. A burglar broke into a vehicle at on Pierce Street. 

12:29 p.m. Police made an arrest during a bicycle traffic stop on Portland Avenue. No additional information was available in the police log.

2:20 p.m. A resident on Carmel Avenue lost a license plate, or the plate was stolen. Police took a case report. 

4:55 p.m. Police received two calls, during the day and evening, about dogs in the a fenced area of Memorial Park .

7:59 p.m. A thief smashed a window in a vehicle parked in the 800 block of Buchanan Street, but did not take a bag inside. Neighbors heard the car alarm sounding.

8:01 p.m. A Honda and Jetta crashed at Solano and Stannage avenues; one person reported a complaint of pain. Police took a case report. 

JUNE 24, SUNDAY

1:22 a.m. Police arrested Edgar Soriano Dejesus at Buchanan and Fillmore streets on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was taken to the Glenn Dyer Detention Facility in downtown Oakland.

1:59 a.m. Police arrested Travis Eugene Logan of Berkeley on suspicion of driving under the influence at Washington and Kains avenues. He was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail.

10:03 a.m. A woman on Marin Avenue called police about a sewer rat in her toilet. She was referred to another agency for help. 

4:41 p.m. Police responded to a report of smoke coming out of a garbage can in Ocean View Park; they corrected the situation.

4:48 p.m. Police gave a warning to people at Marin and Ordway avenues who reportedly had been partying loudly all day.

7:28 p.m. Police responded to a domestic disturbance at Solano and Ramona avenues following a 911 call. 

10:21 p.m. A man inside on Solano heard a large crash, and went outside to his vehicle to see a group of people drive up to it and smash a window. Police arrested two Oakland men, Miguel Altamirano and Gildardo Morenobertancourt, and released them on citations.  

JUNE 25, MONDAY

11:12 a.m. The summer school principal at called police to report that a pile of trash near the lunch room appeared to have been set on fire over the weekend. 

12:33 p.m. A thief prowled through a car on Curtis Street overnight. 

9:30 p.m. Police arrested Sergia David Ibarra and Stanley Joexon Amaya, both of Richmond, in connection with an attempted vehicle theft at . They were taken to the Glenn Dyer jail. 

11:14 p.m. A neighbor on Portland reported " in their vehicle making (a) lot of noise." Police gave a warning. 

11:27 p.m. Police responding to a light on at found two juveniles, and called their parents to get them.

JUNE 26, TUESDAY

9:40 a.m. A caller near Golden Gate Fields told police about a man in a brown van who "is feeding the seagulls with all sorts of scraps and leaves scraps of food such as meat behind." Police alerted security at the racetrack to handle the situation. 

1:29 p.m. A burglar broke into a vehicle in the 500 block of Pierce Street overnight. 

4:40 p.m. A caller near Albany Middle School watched a young man and woman in their 20s "dressed in light colored clothing" appear to exchange money with a man in black clothing. The caller did not see drugs, but believed it was a drug deal. 

7:05 p.m. A caller on Key Route Boulevard reported a possible burglary attempt sometime in the past few weeks after finding pry marks on a window. 

JUNE 27, WEDNESDAY

5:49 a.m. Police investigated a possible burglary at  after an employee reported a side door open near San Pablo Avenue.

11:22 a.m. A thief smashed a car window in the 400 block of Stannage Avenue and stole a GPS and car charger. 

1:29 p.m. Police found a stolen vehicle in the 500 block of Pierce Street. 

4:29 p.m. to 6:48 p.m. Police received several calls about a man wearing camouflage clothing and smoking in front of Solano Cellars with a sign saying, "I'm the prince of Denmark (and) I want to go home." At the time of the final call, he was said to be yelling at people at San Pablo and Washington avenues. Police were unable to find him. 

8:11 p.m. Someone reported finding a silver Mongoose bike near a tree on San Carlos Avenue that had been sitting by the sidewalk for five days. 

JUNE 28, THURSDAY

12:43 a.m. Police arrested Fraser Gilbert Isbester of Berkeley—on suspicion of driving under the influence, reckless driving, being under 21 and using false identification to purchase alcohol, and being under 21 in possession of alcohol—after spotting a driver speeding near The Alameda and Solano Avenue. 

2:05 a.m. Police received a report of a group of people inside a white vehicle who were throwing eggs near Solano and Stannage avenues. Police were unable to locate them.
