Police Calls: Snoozing Parolee, Gill Tract Turkeys, Fillmore Robbery Attempt and More

SEPT. 6

11:29 a.m. Police arrested Scott Matthew Bean of Berkeley at the end of Buchanan Avenue on suspicion of possessing a hypodermic needle or syringe.

SEPT. 7

3:10 p.m. Police arrested Reginald Whitaker of Oakland near Solano and San Pablo avenues in connection with a warrant from another jurisdiction.

10:14 p.m. Someone called to report that a bike was stolen in . According to the University of California Police Department, the bike was described as a navy blue Mongoose Hybrid worth $280, and was stolen sometime the prior week.

SEPT. 8

3:16 p.m. Someone reported a burglary in the 1000 block of Kains Avenue, stating that a cell phone and computer had gone missing earlier in the day. 

7:40 p.m. Someone called to report a burglary from a vehicle in the 1500 block of Beverly Place. 

11:21 p.m. Police arrested Lina Guadalupe Alfaro Cortez of Chula Vista on suspicion of driving under the influence near BevMo! She was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility in downtown Oakland. 

11:33 p.m. A man in a hoodie "pointed an unknown object" that "can make a clicking sound" at someone at Fillmore Street and Solano in an attempted robbery, according to the University of California Police Department. The man fled on foot, and the victim reported seeing a second suspicious person nearby. Nothing was taken from the victim, and the victim was not harmed. Police said they did not know if the object was a firearm. 

SEPT. 9

2:14 a.m. Police arrested Quincy Charles Blevins Jr. of Antioch on suspicion of driving under the influence near BevMo! He was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer jail.

2:34 a.m. Police arrested Marquise Lamar Owens of San Pablo on suspicion of driving under the influence near San Pablo and Washington avenues. He was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer jail. 

8:46 a.m. A vehicle was stolen from the 400 block of Evelyn Avenue sometime in the night.

11:27 a.m. According to the University of California Police Department, someone reported the theft of a $175 GPS unit from her 1997 Toyota Camry several days earlier.

10:20 p.m. Police arrested an Oakland man in the 100 block of Kains Avenue on suspicion of falsely identifying himself to officers; Fernando Marroquin was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer jail. According to the police bulletin, someone reported two or three people involved with "suspicious activity possibly interrupted" when he or she passed by.

SEPT. 10

9:31 a.m. Someone egged a house on Pomona Avenue during the night. 

11:20 a.m. Police arrested a Vallejo man after callers said they saw him "driving back and forth also going the wrong way" on Hillside Avenue. Callers then reported him walking back toward their house. Police arrested Michael K. Thornton of Vallejo on suspicion of loitering and trespassing. He was taken to Glenn E. Dyer jail.

2:55 p.m. The Albany Fire Department responded to the smell of something burning on Stannage Avenue in a first-floor unit. 

5:31 p.m. Someone called to report , saying he or she "thought they were part of an exhibit for the Solano Stroll." According to the bulletin, "he was fine that they were local to the area."

11:32 p.m. Someone reported a burglary in the 100 block of Pierce Street.

SEPT. 11

11:20 a.m. Albany police stopped to help a stalled antique fire truck from Berkeley in the 100 block of San Pablo.

3:29 p.m. Someone stole a nightstand from a driveway in the 800 block of Curtis Street. 

SEPT. 12

12:05 a.m. Someone reported three males possibly breaking into cars running toward their vehicle, which was parked on Washington. According to the caller, they left "at a high rate of speed" following the sound of "clanking tools." Case report taken.

1:48 a.m. Someone called to complain about noise when a group of 10 cyclists passed by Solano and Peralta avenues. 

7:17 a.m. A vehicle was stolen from the 600 block of San Carlos Avenue. 

9:57 a.m. Someone from Cornell Elementary School called to report unwanted calls and texts from a parent. 

1:29 p.m. Police arrested Pedram Zarrabi, described by police as a former resident of Pierce Street, after finding him on the 11th floor of 555 Pierce St. According to police, he had been warned to stay off the property. He was released on a citation.

3:11 p.m. Police arrested a parolee-at-large after someone reported a man sleeping on a bench in front of a shop near Solano and Kains Avenue. The caller was "concerned for (the man's) well being." Police identified the man as Harvey Walker, a transient and wanted parolee. He was taken to Santa Rita Jail.

4:12 p.m. Police responded to a request for help from the University of California Police Department when an emergency of some kind was reported in the University Village computer trailer. 

6:30 p.m. Police responded to Ocean View Elementary School into it.
