Blotter: Stolen Cars on Kains, Fights in the Night, Locked-Out Babysitter

JULY 16

9:32 a.m. Someone stole two locked bikes from a front porch in the 1000 block of Cornell Avenue during the night. Case report taken.

1:56 p.m. A computer was stolen from a building on the 1300 block of Marin Avenue after the back door was left open. Case report taken.

JULY 17

12:01 a.m. Police arrested Sonam Rinchen Lama of Berkeley on suspicion of driving under the influence at San Pablo Avenue and Carlson Boulevard in El Cerrito. He was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility in downtown Oakland.

12:32 a.m. Police responded to the for a report of "threatening yelling" coming from a male and female said to be "near the fire pit." They arrested John Rubio Jr. of Albany on a no-bail warrant out of Berkeley. He was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility.

2:12 a.m. Police arrested Serita Hegler of Albany on suspicion of driving under the influence near Solano Avenue and Cerrito Street. She was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility.

12:07 p.m. A woman in the 800 block of Kains Avenue called police to report that, around 10 a.m., when she was leaving her home, she saw a man walking out of her back yard "with a phone on his belt and an iPad in his hand." She left but later returned home and was unable to get online via her computer. "She went into the back yard and noticed her telephone box was open and the cords were disconnected." Case report taken.

2:16 p.m. A driver suffered minor injuries when two vehicles collided in a hit-and-run on westbound Buchanan Street just east of Jackson Street. A black Jeep Cherokee tried to pass a black Toyota Corolla on the right, and ended up hitting it in the rear. The driver in the Corolla suffered minor injuries and the investigation is ongoing. Case report taken.

10:42 p.m. The 911 dispatch center received four calls reporting a vehicle accident on Carmel Avenue with a semi truck involved. One caller described the sound as an explosion, and another said it sounded like a gunshot. Police said, upon investigation, it appeared to be a mechanical problem with the truck, rather than a collision.

JULY 18

1:09 p.m. Someone stole a computer from a home in the 600 block of Curtis Street after walking in through the unlocked front door. Case report taken.

JULY 19

2:32 a.m. Police responded to the 400 block of Evelyn Avenue for a fight in progress and arrested Munkhbat Myagmarsuren of Richmond on suspicion of public intoxication. Police were told the argument was related to disrespect of a family member. Myagmarsuren was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility. The El Cerrito Police Department also responded to the call.

3:18 a.m. Police responded to the 1200 block of Garfield Avenue for a report of a fight between a man and woman; the man was reportedly intoxicated and in the woman's vehicle. He got out of the vehicle and then broke the woman's windshield, according to the police bulletin. Officers arrested Richard Robert Richards of Albany on suspicion of vandalism. He was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility. 

7:54 a.m. Someone from Lumber Liquidator reported that copper was stolen from the business during the night. Log note only.

5:46 p.m. Police responded to in connection with a juvenile involved in a possible battery. The minor lied to Albany police about his or her identity, police said, but ultimately was arrested by El Cerrito police in connection with the battery, 

JULY 20

12:16 a.m. Police arrested Jose Roberto Rodriguez-Bautista of Berkeley on suspicion of driving under the influence at Harrison and 10th streets in Berkeley. He was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility. 

1:16 a.m. Police arrested Armando Cuatlatl of Oakland on suspicion of driving under the influence at Jackson and Buchanan streets. He was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility. 

JULY 21

7:41 a.m. Police recovered a stolen vehicle that was blocking a driveway in the 1000 block of Kains. The caller who reported the Honda said he parked in his driveway at 5 p.m. the night before, and hadn't heard or seen anything amiss. Vehicle towed.

8:56 a.m. Someone in the same block of Kains reported that his or her Honda was stolen. Police said it was likely the two incidents were related, and that someone dumped the first car, then stole the second. Case report taken.

10:21 a.m. A man on San Carlos Avenue reported that his wife hid his car and would not tell him where it was. Civil matter, parties advised.

12:19 p.m. Police recovered a stolen vehicle at Solano and Cleveland avenues. Police said it probably was not related to the incidents on Kains, given the distance and because it was a different type of vehicle.

12:44 p.m. A babysitter on Talbot Avenue said she locked herself out of a house while a 2-year-old was inside. Miscellaneous public service provided. 

8:26 p.m. A man in his 50s fell down on Solano and broke his wrist. He was taken to the hospital. 

JULY 22

11:58 a.m. Someone stole saddle bags from behind a home in the 900 block of Pierce Street. Case report taken.

JULY 23

12:20 a.m. Police arrested Thu Wai of Corte Madera on suspicion of driving under the influence in the 700 block of San Pablo Avenue. She was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility. 

8:53 a.m. A woman on Kains woke to find her back door open and her computer missing. Case report taken.

2:01 p.m. Someone reported three juvenile girls on the roof of . Warning given.

6:38 p.m. A vehicle was stolen from the 900 block of Masonic Avenue the prior night. Case report taken.

9:11 p.m. A woman at a business on San Pablo tried using several credit cards "before completing a transaction for $99.98." She left in a vehicle, and the credit card use was believed to be fraudulent, the police report said. Case report taken.

9:58 p.m. Someone etched a curse word into the hood of a vehicle in the 500 block of Pierce Street the prior night. Case report taken.

10:24 p.m. Someone reported that a man in his 20s "just urinated" on his or her home, and was then walking toward Club Mallard. Warning given.

JULY 24

12:21 a.m. Police arrested Brenden Lambert of Alameda on suspicion of driving under the influence at San Pablo and Washington avenues. He was taken to the Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility. 

5:46 p.m. An officer found a gray bike on San Gabriel Avenue. Case report taken. 

5:27 p.m. A vehicle was stolen from the parking lot "within the last two days." Log note only.
