Police Calls: Stolen Laptops, Girl Scout Items and Coach Bag; Stuck Skunk

The Albany police logs for July 20-21 include thefts of laptops in two auto burglaries, Girl Scout items from a carport and a Coach bag with valuables on San Pablo, plus a person pushed off a bike at Taco Bell and a petty theft arrest at Target.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Saturday, July 20

Person pushed off bike – At 2:32 a.m., police received a report of a heavyset man who pushed the reporting party off his bicycle and threatened him at Taco Bell on San Pablo. The assailant, who had been in a vehicle in the drive-thru lane, departed south on San Pablo. Disposition: Responsible/s advised of complaint, will correct situation.

Attempted shoplifting at Safeway – At 2:43 a.m., police received a report of a man attempting to steal groceries. The store recovered the groceries and requests prosecution. The suspect was described a white in his 50s with long curly gray hair and beard with glasses, who left going westbound on Marin in 1970s or 1980s Toyota SUV. Disposition: Case report taken.
Vehicle burglary – At 11:16 a.m., police received a report an auto burglary on Washington in which a window was smashed and a laptop, laptop case and work bag were taken. Disposition: Case report taken.
Girl Scout items stolen – At 12:57 p.m., police received a report of a bag of Girl Scout items stolen during the evening from a carport on Adams. Disposition: No police action warranted at this time.
Vehicle burglary – At 1:58 p.m., police received a report of an auto break-in, via tampering with the lock, at the Albany Bulb between noon and 8 p.m. Taken were a laptop, GPS, backpack and extra keys. Disposition: Case report taken.

Husband and son fight – At 6:26 p.m., police received a report of a physical altercation with no weapons involving a husband and a son on Key Route. Disposition: Log note only.

Coach bag stolen – At 6:44 p.m., police received a 911 call reporting the theft on San Pablo of a black Coach bag with credit cards, ring, $150 in cash and a watch. No thief was seen. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Stuck skunk – At 8:30 p.m., police received a report of a skunk stuck under a fence on Madison. The reporting party has a dog. Disposition: Matter or reported situation checks out O.K.

Lost-looking dog – At 8:40 p.m., police received a report of a black and white terrier mix with a collar and no tags looking lost about 10 minutes earlier at Terrace Park. The reporting party did not recognize dog as being from that area. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Sunday, July 21

DUI arrest – At 12:06 a.m., police arrested a Berkeley man at Marin and San Pablo on suspicion of driving under the influence and blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more.

Loud party – At 12:16 a.m., police received a complaint of a loud party in downstairs unit on Jackson. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given. 

DUI arrest – At 1:45 a.m., police arrested a Pittsburg male at Pierce and Johnson on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Multiple vandalism calls – Between 8:53 a.m. and 11:36 a.m., police logged seven reports of vandalism, mostly on Carmel. (Editor's note: Police told Patch that at least six vehicles and two structures had been tagged the previous night, with six of the incidents occurring in the 900 block of Carmel Avenue. See our July 23 story, "Rash of Graffiti on Cars, Structures in Albany.")

Petty theft arrest – At 1:11 p.m., police arrested an El Cerrito female at Target on suspicion of petty theft.

Vehicle missing – At 3:42 p.m., police received a report from an elderly man saying he was shopping in the area of of Solano and Ventura an hour ago and that his vehicle is missing. He is now at home. Disposition: Case report taken.

Found wallet – At 6:27 p.m., someone brought a found billfold into the police lobby. Disposition: Log note only.

Domestic battery arrest – At 8:49 p.m., police arrested an Albany male on Marin on suspicion of domestic battery. The arrest followed a report at 8:21 p.m. of a man hitting his wife.
