Police Calls: Car-Theft in Progress, Suspicious Solicitors, Keys Locked in Idling Car

The Albany police logs for Dec. 4-5 include a caller reporting his car being stolen, an aggressive solicitor who refused to leave, a warrant arrest following a report of two solicitors who fled when the resident approached the door and perilous ice.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Wednesday, Dec. 4

DUI arrest – At 1:07 a.m., police arrested a 24-year-old El Sobrante man at Fairmount and Carlson on suspicion of driving under the influence and having a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more.

Arson fire in bushes – At 6:21 a.m., police logged a report of an arson fire in the bushes near the creek on San Pablo. Disposition: Case report taken. 

Beer truck blocking traffic – At 1:10 p.m., police received a report of a beer truck blocking traffic at Solano and San Pablo. Disposition: Log note only.

Suspicious notice, $2.6 million won – At 5:02 p.m., police received a report from a person saying she received a letter stating she won $2.6 million. When they called, a male with an East Indian accent said they were depositing the money tomorrow and gave the reporting party a password. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Outstanding warrant arrest – At 5:53 p.m., police arrested a 45-year-old Long Beach man in the 900 block of Ventura on an outstanding warrant. The arrest followed a 5:37 p.m. report of two men knocking on a door on Ventura and then leaving when the reporting party approached the door.

Aggressive, rude solicitor – At 6:26 p.m., police received a report of an aggressive, rude solicitor from a business called Second Chances who refused to leave after three requests. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Thursday, Dec. 5

Black ice on Key Route – At 10:07 a.m., police received a report of black ice creating a hazardous condition on the curbside at the southeast corner of Key Route Boulevard and Washington. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Non-injury accident – At 1:01 p.m., a crossing guard reported a non-injury accident in which a vehicle collided with a parked vehicle at Jackson and Buchanan. Disposition: Log note only.

Non-injury accident – At 3:13 p.m., police received a report of non-injury vehicle accident at Billy's Hair Design on San Pablo. Disposition: Log note only.

Spanish speaker's vehicle being stolen – At 3:38 p.m., police logged a report a Spanish-only speaking person is trying to report that his vehicle is being stolen. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Traffic signal not working properly – At 4:20 p.m., police received a report that the red lights at Buchanan and Pierce are not cycling properly. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Head injury from a fall at Barnes & Noble – At 6:22 p.m., police received a 911 call reporting that a person suffered a head injury in a fall at Barnes & Noble in El Cerrito Plaza. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Woman with cane bothering customers – At 7:13 p.m., police received a report of a woman with a cane bothering customers at Cape Cod Restaurant on San Pablo Ave. She is departing now. The reporting party was advised to call back if she returns. Disposition: Log note only.

Non-injury accident – At 7:59 p.m., police received a report from the driver of a vehicle that was sideswiped by another vehicle driven by a female at Stannage and Brighton. The reporting party thinks she has an accident history. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Locked keys in car with engine running – At 8:52 p.m., a person called police saying she locked her keys in the vehicle with the engine running in a 20-minute zone at Max's Liquors near Sugata restaurant. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Outstanding warrant arrest – At 10:11 p.m., police arrested a 47-year-old Richmond man at 400 San Pablo on an outstanding warrant. The arrest followed a 10:04 p.m. report of an officer contacting someone in front of Peet's at San Pablo and Carlson.
