Police Calls: Tennis Player Lets Pit Bull Run Free at Memorial Park

The Albany police logs for Dec. 27 include a stolen bike, graffiti saying "kill the bank" at a bank on Solano Avenue, a man seeking proof of eligibility to use the homeless shelter and a police warning for a loud car radio.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Friday, Dec. 27

Probation, drug arrest – At 3:54 a.m., police arrested a 51-year-old El Cerrito man at San Pablo and Washington on suspicion of violating probation and using or being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Pit bull allowed to run free in Memorial Park – At 9:27 a.m., an employee of the maintenance department reported to police that a loose pit bull is running around the area of Memorial Park. The employee said the dog's owner plays tennis at the park and lets his dog run loose off leash. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.

Keys found on Portland – At 11:14 a.m., police logged a report of keys found in front grass on Portland on Thanksgiving. They were dropped off at the police department. Disposition: Follow-up complete.

Burglary at Albany Waterfront/Bulb – At 11:14 a.m., police logged a burglary report involving officer-initiated activity at the Albany Waterfront/Bulb area. Disposition: Case report taken.

Richmond police want vehicle in Albany – At 2:13 p.m., police logged a report that a victim recovered her own vehicle in Richmond and drove it to work in Albany. Richmond police request that Albany police recover the vehicle. Disposition: Assistance given to outside agency.

Bicycle stolen – At 3:01 p.m., police received a report of a bicycle stolen over the holiday weekend at Evelyn Gardens on Solano. Case report taken.

Kids on roof of Marin school – At 3:56 p.m., police received an anonymous report of kids on the roof at Marin Elementary School. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Anti-bank graffiti – At 5:43 p.m., police received a report that someone wrote, "kill the bank" with a black marker on an ATM door outside the California Bank & Trust on Solano sometime today. 

Man wants to use homeless shelter – At 6:59 p.m., a transient man in the police lobby said he lives near the railroad tracks and used to live on Albany Bulb. He wants to stay in the city's temporary homeless shelter but needs proof per staff that he is eligible. Disposition: Log note only.

Warning for loud car radio – At 8:58 p.m., police received a disturbance-of-the-peace report of a loud car radio being played on Stannage by a 19-year-old with the car door open. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.
