Police Calls: Thefts at Waterfront/Bulb, Woman Bites Man, Man with Rug on Head

The Albany police logs for Aug. 28-29 include five arrests, a Hertz vehicle that didn't come back, a pit bull that jumped into a vehicle containing children at Waterfront Park and a woman with a dog asking for money on the San Pablo/Buchanan median.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Wednesday, Aug. 28

DUI arrest – At 12:29 a.m., police arrested a 34-year-old Novato woman at Solano and Masonic on suspicion of driving under the influence and having a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more.


Petty theft at Waterfront Park – At 12:57 a.m., police logged a "Petty Theft" entry of officer-initiated activity at Waterfront Park. Disposition: Case report taken.

Drug arrest – At 1:44 a.m., police arrested a 26-year-old Richmond woman at 747 San Pablo on suspicion of illegal possession of a controlled substance. The arrest followed a 1:43 a.m. "Bicycle Traffic Stop" and "Arrest Made" report at San Pablo and Washington.

Female with dog on median asking for money – At 7:39 a.m., police logged a report of a female with a dog asking for money on the median at San Pablo and Buchanan. Disposition: Responsible/s advised of complaint, will correct situation.

Leaves raked in vain – At 10:12 a.m., a person who swept leaves into the gutter on Carmel for street-sweeping day complained that a vehicle has parked there and wants the vehicle towed. Disposition: Log note only.

Intersection lights broken – At 10:23 p.m., a person reported that all the lights, including walk/don't walk, are lit up at San Pablo and Buchanan. Disposition: Log note only.

Outstanding warrant arrest – At 10:31 a.m., police arrested a 22-year-old San Leandro man at 800 San Pablo on an outstanding warrant. The arrest followed a 9:57 a.m "Petty Theft" and "Arrest Made" report of a man at pump #2 on San Pablo who put items in his pockets. The reporting party was able to remove the items from the pockets. (Editor's note: Albany Hill Mini Mart is located at 800 San Pablo.)

Vehicle missing at Hertz – At 10:59 a.m., police received a report that vehicle was not returned to Hertz on San Pablo. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Crazy-looking guy with rug over head – At 5:56 p.m., police received a report of guy who looks crazy walking up and down Dartmouth with a rug over his head, looking up driveways. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Missing dog – At 7:43 p.m., police received a call of half poodle/half schnauser missing for a few hours. The dog is grayish black and small-to-medium in size. Disposition: Log note only.

Thursday, Aug. 29

Identity theft – At 8:27 a.m., a person in the police lobby reported that an unknown subject is attempting to open credit card accounts in the person's name. Disposition: Case report taken.

Woman heard screaming
– At 10:42 a.m., police received a report of a woman heard screaming. It sounds like it's coming from an encampment on the east side of the railroad tracks across from Target. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency.

Identity theft – At 1:46 p.m., police logged a report of an unknown person opening credit card accounts in the victim's name. Disposition: Case report taken.

Outstanding warrant arrest
 – At 4:41 p.m., police arrested a 25-year-old San Francisco man in the 900 block of Pomona on an outstanding warrant. The arrest followed a 4:16 p.m. "Disturbance of Peace" and "Arrest Made" report of a man and a woman at Pomona and Marin involved in a physical alternation. The reporting party say the woman bite the man.

Man taking recycling – At 4:55 p.m., police received a report of a man taking recyclables on Cornell and last seen heading toward El Cerrito Plaza. Disposition: Unable to locate source of complaint.

Threats from screaming, cursing man – At 5:56 p.m., a person told police that a screaming, cursing man in red pants threatened to beat up the reporting party. The subject was last seen heading west on Portland. Disposition: Matter/persons referred to outside agency. (Editor's note: The intersection of Ensenada and Portland is in Berkeley, three blocks east of the Albany border.)

Pit bull jumps into occupied vehicle at Waterfront – At 7:29 p.m., police received a report that a pit bull jumped into a vehicle occupied by the reporting party and children at the Waterfront. The dog has since departed with a possible owner. Disposition: Log note only.

Wallet taken from vehicle at Albany Bulb – At 9:21 p.m., police received a report of a brown Eagle Creek wallet with a copper chain containing a driver's license and ATM card taken from an unlocked vehicle at the Albany Bulb. The reporting party would like to be contacted if it is turned in. Disposition: Log note only.

Drug paraphernalia, probation violation arrest – At 9:53 p.m., police arrested a 54-year-old transient at 461 Jackson on suspicion of illegal possession of drug paraphernalia and violating probation. The arrest followed a 9:23 p.m. "Suspicious Vehicle" and "Arrest Made" log report of a pickup parked on Jackson with the engine running and loud music playing for two hours.
