Police Calls: Thieves Clean Out Safeway Register, Youths with Logs on School Roof

The Albany police log for May 25-26 includes two men who swiped all the cash from a Safeway cash register, an iPhone stolen at the Albany Aquatic Center, 6-7 juveniles on the roof of Ocean View School with logs and a Waterfront vandalism arrest.

The following information was obtained from the Albany Police Department's daily incident log and its arrest reports.

Saturday, May 25

Auto burglary 
– At 6:56 a.m., police received a report of an auto burglary on Cornell the previous night. Disposition: Case report taken.

Non-injury accident – At 7:18 a.m., police logged a report of a non-injury vehicle accident at San Palbo and Washington. Disposition: Case report taken.

911 call, found backpacks – At 8:11 a.m., police received a 911 call reporting a couple of backpacks found under a bush at Goodyear on San Pablo. Disposition: Case report taken.

iPhone stolen at pool – At 10:58 a.m., police received a report of an iPhone being taken at 6 p.m. at the pool at Albany High. Disposition: Log note only.

Auto burglary – At 12:08 p.m., police received a report of a catalytic converter taken from a vehicle on Masonic. Disposition: Case report taken.

Log-carrying juveniles on school roof – At 12:45 p.m., police received a report of 6-7 juveniles climbing up on the roof of Ocean View Elementary Schools with logs and that a log is now on top of the play structure. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.

Cash swiped from Safeway register – At 8:58 p.m., police received a report that two men took all the cash from a register at 8:26 p.m. at the Safeway on Solano. The reporting party has surveillance video. The men were described as black in their late 30s, with one wearing a golf hat and a maroon or brown argyle sweater and one wearing a light camouflage jacket and a blue or green t-shirt. Disposition: Case report taken.

Sunday, May 26

DUI arrest 
– At 2:21 a.m., police logged the arrest of an El Cerrio male at the Buchanan Interchange on suspicion of driving under the influence and having a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more.

Vandalism arrest – At 11:58 a.m., police logged the arrest of a Pacheco female at the Albany Waterfront on suspicion of defacing with graffiti or other inscribed material.
