Police Calls: Vandalism on Kains, Manhole Theft, Stolen Catalytic Converters and More

JUNE 5, TUESDAY

10:43 a.m. Two boys who looked to be around 16 years old tried to break into a home in the 800 block of Polk Street, but they were interrupted by a resident. Police took a case report. 

JUNE 6, WEDNESDAY

4:18 p.m. A caller on Curtis Street asked to speak with police about a stalker. 

4:49 p.m. Police received a report about a reckless female driver on San Pablo Avenue with red hair wearing all pick clothing. Log note only.

5:26 p.m. A man in his 40s wearing camouflage clothing was said to be threatening people and running in the street at San Pablo and Marin avenues. Police took a case report. 

6:17 p.m. A driver near Solano Grill asked police about what appeared to be homemade "No Parking" signs to find out if the signs were legitimate. 

9:27 p.m. A man wearing army fatigues was reported to be screaming and threatening people near Solano and Peralta avenues. 

JUNE 7, THURSDAY

12:11 a.m. Police gave a ticket to people in a car with a "loud engine" that a nearby resident said had been parked outside his or her home for 30 minutes "making lots of noise."

5:46 a.m. A caller reported that a burglar had broken into a vehicle via the driver's side window on the Eastshore Highway, but the incident turned out to have happened in Berkeley.

9:10 a.m. A thief stole a license plate off a vehicle in the 900 block of Peralta overnight. 

10:40 a.m. Someone found a set of keys at Santa Fe and Marin avenues, and turned them in to the city. 

11:47 a.m. Someone found a wallet while riding his or her bike near San Pablo and Washington avenues. 

12:19 p.m. A thief stole a computer tablet from the Albany Library about 15 minutes earlier. 

3:28 p.m. A woman called the Police Department, asked for the time, and then hung up once the dispatcher gave it to her. 

4:31 p.m. A burglar smashed a window of a vehicle at Golden Gate Fields and stole an iPod and money. The incident happened in Berkeley, so the caller was referred to the Berkeley Police Department.

4:40 p.m. Three males stole a cell phone from a 15-year-old boy at Masonic and Brighton avenues, then struck the teen before leaving. Police took a case report. (Albany Patch has requested additional information.)

6:58 p.m. Two kids threw a rock through a bedroom window in the 500 block of Talbot Avenue. Police took a case report. 

JUNE 8, FRIDAY

12:56 a.m. A thief stole a garden statue from a home on Masonic Avenue.

3:40 p.m. A burglar went into a home on Cornell Avenue through a garage door. 

4:11 p.m. An adult took a box of fireworks from juveniles on Ramona Avenue. 

5:17 p.m. A man stole lotion from CVS on Solano, then left by bike.

11:26 p.m. Police arrested a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of loitering after receiving a report that three males were hanging out near Key Route Boulevard and Solano Avenue near a mortgage business. The teen was released to a parent.

JUNE 9, SATURDAY

8:32 a.m. A thief stole a purse from a car in the 800 block of Washington Avenue sometime overnight. The caller said the thief already had used credit cards from the purse. Police took a case report. 

8:41 a.m. to 9:36 a.m. Police investigated six separate vandalism incidents on cars and sidewalks in the 600 block of Kains Avenue involving orange paint tagging.

10:41 a.m. Vandals also struck a business in the 700 block of San Pablo Avenue, leaving graffiti. 

11:21 a.m. A thief apparently stole a manhole cover on Taft Street. 

2:25 p.m. Police arrested Spencer Graham of San Leandro after getting a report at Target that two men ran out of the store after stealing a "PSB." Graham was arrested on suspicion of burglary and taken to the Glenn Dyer Detention Facility in downtown Oakland.

2:56 p.m. A caller reported people camping out in a trailer on Masonic and barbecuing outside of it earlier in the day. Police gave them a warning. 

3:05 p.m. Someone on Talbot Avenue confronted a man who had just urinated on the curb. 

5:55 p.m. Police arrested Bradley Feitsam of Las Vegas on suspicion of public intoxication at Golden Gate Fields. He was reported to have been in the club house snack bar acting uncooperative after drinking. He was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail. 

JUNE 10, SUNDAY

11:58 a.m. Someone reported a pitbull running around at Marin Avenue and Ordway Street. 

2:06 p.m. Someone on Key Route found a bike in the bushes Friday night. 

4:18 p.m. Police arrested Rodolfo Ortiz-Chavez of Richmond on suspicion of driving under the influence at Solano and San Pablo after a report of a man in a ball cap "driving all over the road." He was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail. 

5:33 p.m. Someone on Masonic reported a mobile home nearby that had people in it who had been living there for a few days. Police gave them a warning. 

10:42 p.m. Someone on Ramona and Solano avenues reported a group of teen males "running around vehicles and chasing each other with 'blunt force objects' being very loud" and keeping the caller from going to sleep. 

JUNE 11, MONDAY

1:35 a.m. Police arrested Pedro Flores-Duenas of El Cerrito on suspicion of driving under the influence in the 600 block of Pierce Street. He was taken to the Glenn Dyer jail. 

8:47 a.m. A thief stole a catalytic converter off a vehicle in the 1000 block of Talbot Avenue overnight. 

9:21 a.m. A thief stole a catalytic converter off a vehicle in the 1000 block of Cornell Avenue overnight. 

12:25 p.m. Someone at the Albany Shell gas station reported that a car had driven into a pillar or island on the property.

7:32 p.m. Police gave a warning to a recycling-collector on Ramona. 

8:01 p.m. A woman on Hillside reported a large bird, possibly a crow, that had been perched on her porch for a couple hours. Police referred her to another agency. 

9 p.m. A woman was reported to have walked out of Target with merchandise in her arms. Police took a case report. 

10:07 p.m. Security at Albany Bowl separated two groups getting into a fight in lanes 14 and 15. Police helped separate them and resolve the situation. 

JUNE 12, TUESDAY

1:38 a.m. Police recovered a stolen vehicle in the 700 block of Stannage Avenue after finding it running with the trunk open.

  • On June 1, the El Cerrito Police Department reported the arrest of Muiruri Kamurua of Albany on suspicion of petty theft. 
  • On June 7, the Davis Police Department reported the arrest of Michael Golden, 45, of Albany on suspicion of burglary, grand theft and possession of a controlled substance. 
  • On June 12, the Berkeley Police Department reported the arrest of Eric Kanyi, 32, of Albany on suspicion of public intoxication and failing to appear in court.
