Police Calls: Vehicles Vandalized, Damaged, Stolen; Suspicious Teen Solicitors

The Albany police logs for July 20-21 list many vehicle-related offenses, including theft, burglary, hit and run, spray-painting, slashed tire and door lock pried out. Also teen solicitors, two people taking recycling and a drunk/disorderly arrest.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Monday, July 22

Man taking recycling – At 8:35 a.m., police received a complaint of a man on foot in a tan jacket with a bag taking recycling on Pierce. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.

Vehicle stolen
– At 9:16 a.m., police received a report of vehicle taken on Solano near the gas station. Transferred to the Berkeley Police Department.

Parole violation, prowling arrest 
– At 10:04 a.m., police arrested a Richmond male at 1260 Brighton on suspicion of prowling and violating parole.

Theft arrest – At 2:15 p.m., police arrested an Albany male employed as a wheelchair assistant in the 1100 block of Garfield on suspicion of theft. The arrest followed a log report at 2:07 p.m. of police serving a warrant on Garfield.

Tire slashed again – At 3:19 p.m., police received a report of a tire on a vehicle in a carport on Solano being slashed last week, the third time since the beginning of the year. The reporting party wants a report. Disposition: Case report taken.

Non-injury accident – At 4:06 p.m., police received a report of non-injury accident involving a red Subaru and tan Chevy Malibu on Gateview. Disposition: Log note only.

Hit and run – At 6:47 p.m., police received a report of parked vehicle discovered damaged in a hit and run on Pomona. Disposition: Case report taken.

Tuesday, July 23

Recovered stolen vehicle
– At 12:24 a.m., police logged a report of a recovered stolen vehicle at CVS Pharmacy on Solano. Disposition: Vehicle towed.

Woman taking recycling at Target
– At 5:23 a.m., police received a complaint of a woman in a blue shirt and black jeans on a bike taking recycling and making a mess at Target. The store manager would like her to leave. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.

Car spray-painted
– At 6:39 a.m., police received a report of a parked car spray-painted on Curtis. Disposition: Case report taken.

Commercial burglary – At 9:57 a.m., police received a report of flight controller remote taken from the basement of A and T Video Traders on Madison. Disposition: Case report taken.

Vehicle burglary – At 11:58 a.m., police received a report of a small box of coins taken from vehicle on Jackson during the late night or early morning hours. The victim wishes to have a record of the theft. Disposition: Log note only.

Drunk/disorderly arrest – Police arrested an El Cerrito man in 1200 Portland on suspicion of being under the influence to an unsafe degree or obstructing a public right of way. The arrest followed a report to police at 5:34 p.m. that a man in his 30s in a white shirt and blue jeans was walking around a yard trying doors. The reporting party, a resident, confronted the man and told him to leave, but he refused and was reported to be sitting in a chair in the front yard. The reporting party doesn't know the man.

Vehicle tampering – At 6:12 p.m., police received a report of a door lock having been pried out of the reporting party's vehicle sometime the previous night. Whoever removed the lock was unable to open the car and left with the lock. The reporting party is concerned that whoever did it may come back and steal the car. The reporting party does not desire a report, just to have a record of the incident. Disposition: Log note only.

Two teen solicitors – At 7:09 p.m., police received a report of two clean-cut male teens going door to door selling alarms. The reporting party was concerned they may be casing. Disposition: Miscellaneous violation – warning given.
