Police Calls: Wallet Stolen While Resident at Home, Dog Bite

The Albany police logs for Dec. 9-10 include a burglar taking wallet while the resident was home upstairs, another burglar who used a key to enter a rear door and steal jewelry, a CVS shoplifter confronted and a dog bite at Solano and Pomona.

The following information was obtained from the daily incident log and arrest log of the Albany Police Department.

Monday, Dec. 9

DUI arrest – At 1:07 a.m., police arrested a 22-year-old Kensington man at San Pablo and Garfield on suspicion of driving under the influence and having a blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more.

Auto burglary at Target – At 12:14 p.m., police received a report of an employee's car broken into at Target at approximatel 11:23 a.m. Disposition: Case report taken.

Shoplifting at CosmoProf – At 12:37 p.m., police received a report of a woman in a large hat and oversized clothing taking merchandise and putting it in her purse at CosmoProf. She may have done the same before. Disposition: No police action warranted at this time.

Bitten by dog at Solano and Pomona – At 12:42 p.m., police received a call from UC Berkeley Urgent Care reporting a dog bite that occurred at Solano and Pomona at 8:15 a.m. A dog owner was walking two dogs when her medium-sized gray curly dog began lunging at the victim and made contact. Disposition: Message left.

Hit and run with damage – At 2:28 p.m., police received a report of a hit and run with damage at Pierce and Washington involving a Toyota Prius and a driver in his 20s wearing a blue bandana and last seen going south on Pierce. Disposition: Log note only.

CVS shoplifter confronted – At 4:46 p.m., police received a report that a woman stole property from the the CVS Pharmacy on Solano. A mail carrier told the reporting party where to find the responsible party, and they retrieved the stolen property as well as some of the responsible's property. CVS is requesting a report. The suspect was described as black, 5-feet 5-inches tall, 200-210 pounds, with a dark complexion and wearing a gray jacket with a hood, black shirt and gray leggings. Disposition: Case report taken.

Upset woman followed off freeway – At 5:41 p.m., police logged a report of a hysterical female at the Buchanan Interchange of Buchanan yelling that a man followed her off the freeway. Disposition: Case report taken.

Burglary while resident at home – At 6:01 p.m., police received a report that an unknown person entered a home on Sante Fe between 12-12:30 p.m. while the resident was home upstairs and stole her wallet from her purse. Her credit card was used at 12:39 p.m. Disposition: Case report taken.

Drug paraphernalia arrest – At 8:51 p.m., police arrested a 33-year-old Berkeley woman at 1061 Eastshore on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia. The arrest followed a report of an officer-initiated check of a pedestrian at Target.

Prowler on Key Route – At 9:58 p.m., police received a report of man seen about 12:30 p.m. near the back window of a residence and later walking by the kitchen window. When asked what he was doing, he said he was looking for someone named Gregory in apt. B of the duplex. The reporting party thinks he may have jumped over the front gate and down the back wall to get inside the yard. Her neighbor said their back doorknob had also been tampered with. The reporting party wanted only a record of the incident. Disposition: Log note only.

Tuesday, Dec. 10

Drug paraphernalia arrest – At 5:20 a.m., police arrested a 36-year-old Stockton man at 500 San Pablo Ave. on suspicion of illegal possession of a controlled substance. The arrest followed a 5:04 a.m. report of an officer-initiated check of a pedestrian.

Rental vehicle hit at Safeway – At 9:23 a.m., police received a report of a rental vehicle being hit while parked at Safeway. The rental agency is requiring a report. Disposition: Miscellaneous public service provided.

Drunk/disorderly arrest – At 1:13 p.m., police arrested a 46-year-old male transient at 10th and Harrison on suspicion of being under the influence to an unsafe degree or obstructing a public right of way. 

Fraudulent use of credit card – At 1:21 p.m., police received a report that an unknown subject obtained the reporting party's credit card number and used it to make unauthorized purchases online. Disposition: Log note only.

Identity theft, credit card fraud – At 4:40 p.m., a person reported that her credit card was stolen from her job yesterday. The credit card company told her it was fraudulently used. Disposition: Case report taken.

Residential burglary by someone with a key – At 8:27 p.m., police received a report that an unknown person entered a residence on Peralta via the back door with a key sometime yesterday. Jewelry and possibly other items were taken. Disposition: Case report taken.

Drunk/disorderly, probation arrest – At 8:32 p.m., police arrested a 61-year-old male transient in the 900 block of San Pablo on suspicion of violating probation and being under the influence to an unsafe degree or obstructing a public right of way.

Drunk/disorderly, probation arrest – Police arrested a 55-year-old Berkeley man in the 900 block of San Pablo on suspicion of violating probation and being under the influence to an unsafe degree or obstructing a public right of way. (Editor's note: the time of the arrest is not indicated in the arrest log, though judging from incident log, it appears to be about the same time as the other arrest at the same location and on the same charges listed immediately above.)
